The Rise of a Scholar
"Why should I bow before that man?" asked a kid. "He's a top aristocrat of this kingdom. Kid, we're low class-men, born in lower class families. That's why we have to bow before him," answered the man. The kid became curious to know more. "Can I be like him? I also want to be respected by people," the kid said with an affirmed tone. The man started laughing hearing the kid's talks. "Hahaha. You're good in joking, kid. A low-class can't become a Scholar like them," stated the man and walked away. Determined to become a Scholar like the man described, the kid named Kim Yoon Shik decided to become a respected Scholar like the one he saw on the very first day in the Kingdom capital city. INTRODUCTION
All the characters mentioned in this historical story are of my own imagination. The setting is of ancient Korea, Joseon Dynasty.
Since it is historical story so, I am trying to depict how difficult it was in those times for a commoner to rise up. The difficulties a commoner had to face those times could not be removed so easily. The story is trying to depict the odds that the MC will face during his journey to become a renowned Scholar. I hope you readers will support this work by voting on the story.
The story is set in Joseon Dynasty where the society is divided into different classes.
~The uppermost class is 'Yangban' which constitutes 10% of the population and involve bureaucrats, ministers etc in the king's court.
~Below this lies 'Chungin' class which involve petty bureaucrats, small village administrators etc.
~'Sangmin' section is third class which constitute mainly middle class families involved in agriculture, small businessmen, shop owners, peasants etc.
Like this there is Cheonmin class and Nobi which are the lower most sections of people.
