The Rise of a Scholar

"Why should I bow before that man?" asked a kid. "He's a top aristocrat of this kingdom. Kid, we're low class-men, born in lower class families. That's why we have to bow before him," answered the man. The kid became curious to know more. "Can I be like him? I also want to be respected by people," the kid said with an affirmed tone. The man started laughing hearing the kid's talks. "Hahaha. You're good in joking, kid. A low-class can't become a Scholar like them," stated the man and walked away. Determined to become a Scholar like the man described, the kid named Kim Yoon Shik decided to become a respected Scholar like the one he saw on the very first day in the Kingdom capital city. Lost his mother & father; pushed away his lover, the protagonist Kim Yoon Shik negotiated all the difficulties in his path and finally achieved the dream that he had seen in his childhood. ~~~~~~~~ Cover photo is taken from Pinterest so the copyrights are owned by its owner. I have to jump out from here

Sung Tae pulled his hair in frustration, seeing unconscious Hani on the bed. "What shall I do? I cannot leave her here alone," Sung Tae murmured. He removed the blanket which was over Hani and encircled his arm around her back, thus pulling her up. He tried one more time thinking she might wake up but it was in vein.

"I understood. They planned all this to make Yoon Shik lose temper seeing both of us here. Why on earth did I agree to those treacherous men?" Sung Tae furiously spoke. He looked around and saw the window there.

Gently placing Hani on the bed, he went towards the window. He opened it up and found that the room he was in, was on second floor. Luckily the room was towards the backyard so he could escape from there without anyone's notice but he had to do that really quick.

Sung Tae, then went to the door. "This door needs to be covered first. I can't let anyone come and see me with this young woman," Sung Tae murmured and looked at the table in that room. He carried it up and placed it near the door, thus blocking the doorway. He then went to the window and tried finding if he could jump from there.

Approximating the height, he went towards the bed and looked at Hani. "I have to jump from the window along with Hani. I will definitely got hurt but this situation will hurt me more if someone will see us together especially Yoon Shik than that injury," Sung Tae thought. He took out his overcoat and made it like a rope as he had to tie Hani so that when he would jump, she would not get hurt.

He then removed the overcoat Hani was wearing which women of those times used as a veil to cover their faces. He had already thrown the shoes Hani was wearing out of the window. Sung Tae quickly coveted Hani's face with that and then carried her on his back. He then used his overcoat to keep intact Hani on his body.

He went towards the window and looked at the ground. He gulped as he put his hand on the window rails and stepped up.

Yoon Shik along with Park Do Yeong and Park Sunwo were coming to the resting house. "Sung Tae, if you will do anything to Hani, I swear I will forget that you are the son of the prime minister," Yoon Shik thought in his mind and clenched his fist. There were many wrong thoughts coming to his mind.

In 15 minutes, they reached outside the resting house. Yoon Shik stepped inside the entrance when Park Do Yeong spoke, "Yoon Shik, do not take it otherwise but Sung Tae is not the person who can do something with Hani. He indeed says some harsh things but he is not that kind of person." Sunwo too agreed with Do Yeong.

"I do not believe him. Those men were not lying. Let's not delay and search for them," Yoon Shik with exasperation spoke. They went inside the entrance door when the owner of the rest house came towards them.

"Young masters," Bong Shin bowed his head as he looked at Yeong and Sunwo. "How may I help you? Do you want to spend…" Do Yeong stopped him from speaking.

"We are informed about something serious. Did you by any chance see Sung Tae, the son of the prime minister come here?" Do Yeong questioned.

Bong Shin refused. "Forgive me, young master, but Master Tae did not come here," Bong Shin pronounced softly. Do Yeong and Sunwo were happy to hear that but Yoon Shik did not believe. "Ahjusshi, please think once more. He might have come here with a young woman. She was this tall. She reaches till my shoulder," Yoon Shik tried explaining about Hani to Bong Shin.

"Young master, many customers come here in a day. But was the woman a regular here?" Bong Shin asked with a smirk. Do Yeong and Sunwo waved their hands in air to refuse him. Yoon Shik could not control his anger and punched Bong Shin such that he fell on the ground. Everyone turned to look at them.

Do Yeong and Sunwo ran towards Yoon Shik to stop him. Yoon Shik the grabbed his robes. "How dare you say such a thing about my sister? I will…" Yoon Shik raised his fist to punch Bong Shin again when Do Yeong grabbed his fist and pulled him back.

"Calm down!" Do Yeong shouted at Yoon Shik who was outraged at the owner of the resting house. Some servants came ahead to pick Bong Shin up. "Please forgive us. I would like to compensate you," Do Yeong tried calming the situation. Sunwo went to Yoon Shik and patted his back who was still in anger.

"I am sparing him because of you two, young masters," Bong Shin asserted. Do Yeong thanked him and looked at the servants. "Did anyone of you by any chance see Sung Tae coming here?" Park Yeong interrogated them. The servants refused.

"Is the young master talking about the son of the prime minister?" a man in the crowd asked Do Yeong who nodded.

"Yes, I saw him. He went with a young lady to a room on the second floor," the man replied. Yoon Shik rushed to that man and told him to show the way. Everyone started whispering among them. The man told Yoon Shik to follow him. Do Yeong and Sunwo too followed them.

On the other hand, Sung Tae was still resisting from jumping, seeing the great height. "You can do this, Sung Tae. You have taken the military training," Sung Tae told himself as he breathed in and out.

"To save us three, I have to jump out from here. If I get caught with Hani here then, Yoon Shik will definitely hit me and will never listen to me. Darn it!!" Sung Tae mumbled and jumped out of the window.

"Ahh," Sung Tae cried out as he fell on his knees but he suppressed his cries not to attract the attention towards him. His hands were also bruised but luckily, the backyard was grassy so, he did not get heavily injured. He stood up gathering his entire strength and opened the knot. Gently placing Hani on the ground, Sung Tae turned to her.

"Why is she still unconscious?" Sung Tare wondered and felt a severe pain in his knees. He covered Hani's face and made her wear the shoes which were on the ground. He put his hand around Hani's waist and brought her closer to him. Luckily he had carried a fan that day so he opened it using his left hand kept it near his face so that no can could see his face and he could walk out from there from anyone's notice.

Yoon Shik followed the man along with Do Yeong and Sunwo. They reached outside the room. Yoon tried opening the door and felt as if something was hindering him. "It is not opening," Yoon Shik complained and kicked at the door in frustration.

Park Sunwo called for the servants and told them to open the door. After several attempts, the door was finally opened and they saw a table there. Yoon Shik pushed it aside and walked in but he did not find anyone there. Do Yeong and Sunwo were happy to see that Sung Tae was not there.

"Why did you lie?" Sunwo asked that man.

"I did not lie. They were here," replied the man. The other people were watching them when a few came towards them and asked about the commotion. Sunwo asked about Sung Tae from them but everyone refused about seeing them.

"I think they already left," the man asserted. Yoon Shik did not say anything and started checking the other rooms but he did not find Sung Tae and Hani there.

"Yoon Shik, we shall not trust the words of the people. Maybe Hani is somewhere else," Do Yeong pronounced.

"Three men can't lie, Do Yeong. Sung Tae might have taken her somewhere," Yoon Shik muttered.

"Let's go from here first and again find her in the market," Do Yeong suggested. Yoon Shik nodded and they came out of the resting house.
