My expression went blank.

The others agreed. "Oh, that could work."

"Wait, wait, wait. What?" My jaw dropped.

"Aren't you two dating? It shouldn't be so hard to kiss in front of everyone, right?"

Gene's face turned bright red. He didn't even want to look at me. Eventually, he fainted on his seat.

"Gene! Wake up!" I shook him.

"Wow. Even that is too much for him?" said one of the girls.

"They're not dating," Momo answered for us. She and Cyrus were pretty calm despite the situation.

"Oh. Really? You two are always together, so we assumed you were."

"We also saw you holding hands one time."

"We're just best friends," I said.

Eventually, Gene slowly rose from his seat. He looked a bit dizzy.

"Are you alright, Gene?" I was ready to help him up.

He didn't say anything in reply. Instead, he brought his face closer to mine and kissed me on the lips. I froze.

Everyone else was speechless from the sudden surprise move.
