“Was Signor Panacci placed in the room across the corridor?” Marco asked the maid.
“Yes, Signor Conte.”
“Good. I expect him to be treated as family.”
“Yes, Signor Conte.”
“Thank you, you may go.”
The maid curtsied and left the room, closing the door behind her. Marco and I looked at each other. I smiled and he frowned.
“I hate all this bowing and scraping,” he said.
“Better get used to it, babe. It’s gonna get worse before it gets better.”
“Let’s go find Giuseppe and check out the security in this place.”
“Right behind you.”
We tried the door across the corridor from our suite and found our quarry exploring his own quarters. He snapped to attention when we appeared in his doorway.
