"I know not wanting to try but jeez, don't you think she's being a bit of a lazy cow?

I hear that as I walk down the hallways of Mort Valley. My jaw is clenched and my fists are balled up tight. Aurora is walking beside me, hands wrapped around herself as she focuses her gaze on the floor in front of her no doubt she hears the voices, too.

"I heard she scored during Alex's party and she's been addicted ever since." I hear one girl mutter and when I look at whose voice it is I see her looking straight at Aurora before she goes back to talking to her ratty friends, "cut off cold turkey, finally going through the withdrawal."

The blood rushes to my head and I grab Aurora's hand. I don't know if it's to calm her down or if it's to calm myself down, but the vice I currently have on Aurora's hand tells me it's for my own benefit.

As we walk past all the wondering eyes we stop short when I notice my brother talking to a blonde I don't notice. When I stop in front of Alex, Aurora carries on walking. She nearly tumbles to the floor when I refuse to let go of her hand. My other hand shoots out as Alex tries to catch her.

Aurora's face is inches away from the floor. My one hand still grasping hers whilst the other is latched onto her shoulder. Alex's hands are wrapped around her middle and chest. Aurora just looks blankly at the floor, no sound escaped her lips when she went straight to the floor.

Alex and I help her up, "are you okay?" I whisper in her ear as I caress her back. All she does is nod. I exchange a concerned look with Alex as Aurora snakes her hand away from mine and walks away. I watch her, along with every other fuck in the hall, as she turns the corner and out of view.

Later on, in English class, I'm preparing to get the hell out of there when two pairs of wedged shoes stop at the front of my desk. I look up to see, oh, who would have guessed it? Jessica and Lauren. The school gossips.

"Hello?" I snarl at them. Why are they bothering me? The bell's gone and now it's just us and the majority of the rugby boys. Yes, that includes my twin and Oakley. Since it's lunch they all enjoy staying behind and messing around before someone comes in to kick them out.

Jessica slaps her mouth together as she chews her gum and you can hear all the vile mouth noises she makes. Gag!

"What's up with Aurora?" Jessica questions.

"Yeah. It's like she's a zombie or something." Lauren chimes in.

"Is she like... okay?" Jessica tried with her fake sympathy, "Aurora's meant to be at the top of the pyramid at the next rugby game."

Ahhh there it is.

"She's fine." It's not my place to say anything, especially to Jessica and her goons.

Lauren twirls her hair with her fingers, "Maybe if Coach Parker sees that Aurora isn't like... stable, she'll put you at the top."

Really Lauren? You're so far up Jessica's ass that you don't want anything for yourself?

Jessica's jaw drops and she looks at Lauren, "oh my gawd, Lauren. You are like sooooo clever!"

I groan as I get up and swing my bag on my shoulder. Jessica's long ass nails jab me in the chest, I swear she just stabbed me.

"What's wrong with her though? Just so we know to not overwork her."

"It's none of your business." I snap. I try to sidestep her but she grabs onto my wrists. The boys must have sensed the commotion in their tight-knit circle because some of their heads swivel around to look at us.

My gaze locks with Jessica's as I try to give her my best death stare, "get. off. me."

Jessica's tiny pedicured hand squeezes tighter on my dainty wrist. She comes in close and whispers quietly enough for me to hear, "if you don't tell me. I will spread a rumour so fucking fast."

I scowl at her. Who does she think she is?

"It's none of your business, Jessica. I care for Aurora and if you do too, just like you claim, you'd give her space."

She makes an mhm sound and shrugs, "I guess I don't need to. I heard a neat little rumour about her precious little daddy. It would be such a shame if people started to find out."

Anger starts to fuel my insides as my head whips towards Alex who is just staring at me. He told people!

I don't know who I'm madder at: Alex for telling someone or Jessica for threatening to spread a rumour that's already true.

Jessica's grip loosens on my wrist and I count to three in my head, trying to calm myself down.

Jessica's white fucking pearly teeth shine at me and that does it.

I yank my hand away from hers and bring it straight up to the side of her face. She lets out an audible gasp and Lauren starts screaming, running out of the class for help. Fucking cheerleaders.

Jessica goes flying onto a desk. The impact her body body with it sends the desk back and she falls to the floor.

"Woah!" Alex booms over Lauren's screaming and Jessica's sobs of pain.

My face contorts in anger as I stride over and jab my finger in his chest, "don't you fucking dare, Alex. You promised not to tell!"

Alex looks at me in confusion, "Dais, I don't know what you're on about-"

"Miss Hough!"
