The worker

Chapter 15 The worker

The gruesome scene before everyone is nauseating as some of them could not help but throw up after looking at the corpses on the ground and the thick smell of blood in the air.

However, no one wanted to waste things as some of them who have the stomach began gathering the corpses on the ground to turn into materials.

In the midst of them, is a person with a wide smile on his face busily dismantling the corpses and gathering things that are useful from them. His speed has already attracted a few people who look at him with wondering gazes.

They did not know when the guy was able to have such a skill, but seeing him work on the corpses made them all somewhat admire his dismantling skill.

Of course, that guy is Han Jin. He has volunteered himself in harvesting the corpses so that he can regain the wasted Chi he has used in this battle.

Pushing his speed to the limit at that time consumed his strength and Chi. After eating, he has regained a part of his strength and energy. Now he is going to regain his Chi as he dissects and harvests materials from the carcass of the wolves.

The only regret he has in doing this is that he could not get any of these materials as they would all go to the military provision and material stocks.

But, at least he could gain Chi in doing so as he could absorb a lot of them while working.

After activating his skill, Nim's Eye, he could see many valuable objects which made him want to take them and craft weapons out of those things.

Wolf's fangs, wolf hide, and bones are some of the most useful materials he could use in crafting. The meat, of course, is a source of sustenance, so he slices them into thin cuts and lays them on the side table which made those that see those thin slices of meat almost salivate.

The beautiful cuts made it look like they did not come from the disgusting corpses making many forget their origin.

It was already nighttime when they were finished and Han Jin was called to the tent of the Class-B person from the village.

As he walks inside, he was greeted by some of the officers who have a look of gratefulness and admiration in their eyes.

"Are you done with your chores…" the man said with a hint of a chuckle in his smile.

Han Jin awkwardly nodded his head.

"Sir, yes, sir!" he replied.

"Private Jin, you've done well this time. Without your help, I don't know how I could explain this mess to the higher-ups…" the man said.

"Special Officer Lou… This guy has deserted the mission, I think…" suddenly a middle-aged officer steps forward and pointed at Han Jin.

But he stopped as the man called Special Officer Lou glared at him.

"Officer Jak… Do you think of me as stupid?" Special Officer Lou said in a deep tone.

He has already investigated this thing and found out that Han Jin was actually lost in the forest in the initial attack from the beasts.

According to the report journal he got, he was proclaimed KIA by his superior officer and was said to have been attacked by giant rats.

Now, who could have expected someone who has been attacked by giant rats to have survived without any wound? Plus, the man was actually able to traverse the forest and traveled very far just to find the convoy.

In fact, he admires the guy for his tenacity and was even able to find the convoy after many days of traversing through the dangerous forest.

"With your contribution, what is it that you wanted?" Special Officer Lou asked while his expression turned calm while looking at Han Jin.

Han Jin did not know why Officer Jak is glaring at him at this moment.

If this was before he would just lower his head and not raise any questions. As a soldier, he is trained to obey commands no matter what happened.

Even though he is trained as such, he is still a rookie. So, obedience and respect for the officers are not yet ingrained in his mind making him feel a hint of insubordination within him erupting.

"Why is Officer Jak glaring at me?" Han Jin suddenly asked.

This question stumped the rest of the men in the tent creating an awkward silence.

"When the first attack happened, I was dragged to the side and performed as a soldier should do. But then, I noticed something… something strange. I think it was killing intent. However, I brushed it off as I fought against the giant rats…" Han Jin explained.

"Private Jin… I think this is not the appropriate time for this matter…" an officer suddenly interrupted.

Han Jin stopped as he forces himself to calm down.

He then shifted his gaze to Officer Jak. Suddenly, a strong killing intent rose up from his body which immediately suffocated everyone in the tent.

Even Special Officer Lou was taken aback at the intense pressure coming from the young man.

What did he experience in the forest that created such a monster out of the amiable-looking person? From the way he looks at it, this is not the young man's old temperament.

This kind of killing intent is something that he has gained while traveling through the dangerous forest.

Feeling the strange looks of everyone in the room, Han Jin once again forces himself to calm down.

He did not want to stay in this tent anymore and quickly lowers his head.

"This one wanted nothing… I am just doing my duty as a soldier… Permit this one to leave.., Sir!" Han Jin said while lowering his head with a salute.

"Go on…" Special Officer Lou waves his hand.

Han Jin saluted to the rest of the officers and turns around to leave.

He then left the tent.

"That… that pressure…" one of the officers muttered.

"Haha… That… is what you call killing instinct. It is something you gained after fighting many life and death battles…" Special Officer Lou explained with a smirk while looking at Officer Jak who is showing a slightly pale complexion.

"Who commanded the strike on him?" he suddenly asked while looking at Officer Jak.

"I… I don't know what you're talking about…" Officer Jak denied it.

"Hmm… Well, I don't care about your private matters. But remember this… I don't want to lose another promising young soldier in your military-political bullshit." He said while glaring at Officer Jak.

Officer Jak did not say anything and just lowered his head. His fist is clenched tightly as he grits his teeth in agitation.

He did not expect that the bastard would still be alive after someone reported him being dragged by those giant rats. In fact, according to the witness, he was supposed to have been mauled and ravaged by the giant rats as all they found are traces of blood on the ground.

Who would have known that the bastard is still alive?

"If I could not dispose of that bastard, what should I do?" he muttered.

He was the one who assigned Han Jin to the convoy and was tasked to make sure that he would be in the most dangerous position. He only has one opportunity to rise through the ranks, but even blew it.

"Hmm… Should I…" he began thinking, but then stopped as he knew that it is now too late to act.

With the eyes of a Class-B on him, he could not do anything anymore. He could only grit his teeth as he began thinking of ways how to handle things.

Meanwhile, Han Jin returns to his tent as he washed himself up, and then lies on the makeshift bed.

"Hehe… You almost lost your cool back then…" a wizened voice interrupted his musing.

On the side of the tree, a face appears.

"Yeah, I'm still too young, I guess…" Han Jin just muttered.

"It is natural to have such impulses… Just control your killing intent. That would cause you to be at a disadvantage when fighting against powerful foes than you…" Old Onyx advised.

"Yeah… But how could I do that?" Han Jin asked.

"Through gaining experience of course…"

Upon hearing those words, Han Jin suddenly now has another goal… and that is to experience more battles.

He needed to train harder so that he could sharpen his skills and abilities. He already has gotten the skill to be able to defend himself… now he has to sharpen those skills and train more.

The next day…

The convoy began their long journey to Awan Village so that they could restock and repair the vehicles to continue with their mission.

The soldiers have jubilant expressions on their faces after having a hearty breakfast complimentary of the wolf meat which turned out to be delicious and tender.

Because it was turned into thin strips, it became a delectable food for the soldiers.

For some reason, that night, Han Jin actually stayed up all night and smoked a large batch of those meats along with several soldiers.

So this morning, everyone had a fine breakfast which delighted everyone.

It was already afternoon when the convoy arrives in Awan Village where they were greeted by the villagers and the soldiers stationed in the village.

As the soldiers enter the barracks, Han Jin was suddenly called to Special Officer Lou's office.

This is not the first time he enters the army barracks in Awan Village, so he was able to locate the office.

Before entering, he suddenly noticed a few people sitting outside of the office. When he saw those people, he showed slight curiosity after noticing a figure with a veil on her face.
