I repeated the operation of crushing the pill and fed it to him.
“Give it a minute,” I said.
“Come back to bed,” he murmured, raising a blanket-covered arm. I hesitated and he added in a pathetic voice, “I’m cold.”
I laughed and lay down. He put arm and blanket around me and I felt warm, comfortable, and safe. I could feel the warmth of his breath on the back of my neck. It was wonderful.
And I could feel that prodding against my butt.
I slipped back into sleep, with the light on, and awoke sometime later.
“Rick!” I said.
“Mmm?”
“I think we should get going. This isn’t a safe place to stay. Couldn’t we find somewhere, an office of a store or something?”
He made another noise, and then stirred. “Good idea.”
