Chapter 37: Tell Me Everything

Aurora's POV

I like to think of myself as level-headed, but I was aware that I wasn’t the most level-headed person. With my mother standing in front of me I couldn’t fathom being anything other than angry. She had spent my entire life lying to me and grooming me to trust her lies simply because she was my mother.

“Aurora…” her words trailed off. She didn’t know what to say to me and I don’t think any words that she prepared would be enough to compensate for the damage that she caused. For years I thought my father left because he didn’t want anything to do with me. She had preyed on my fears and insecurities, turning them into a weapon of her making.

“Save it, you’re a liar and you don’t see anything wrong with that!”

Janine’s hands on my arms tightened. I wasn’t sure if she feared that I would run away or attack, but either result was justified. My life was falling apart before my eyes and all I could do was sit and watch as I peeled away layer after layer.
