Chapter 29: Traitor

Aurora’s POV

The hard part was leaving Liam. We had patched things up and all I wanted was to stay wrapped in his embrace, but I had other things to do. I couldn’t talk to him and not address what I knew with my mother. Everything seemed to tie back to her and the secrets that she chose to keep from me.

I didn’t know what I was going to say or do, but I couldn’t keep this inside. There was no way I’d be able to look at her and smile and pretend that everything was fine. I couldn’t look at her and pretend that I didn’t know that she was lying to me.

The front door of the house opened, and I heard my mom panting; she must have run from somewhere. It couldn’t have been far, but it was enough for her to breathe heavily. She dropped her eyes to the table by the door. I heard the metal hit the wood as she breathed sighs of relief. I could hear the cotton from her jacket sweep the floor as she removed it tossing it someplace, most likely on the same table as the keys.
