Chapter fifteen

Vivienne gave him a hard look and began unbuckling her seat belt, ready to take her exit.

They were driving through the highway and Gavin thought it was stupid of her to want to trek home from that distance.

"Yes, I am what you think I am. Fucking stop the car. I want to get down.."

Gavin ignored her and kept on driving but when she began unlocking the door, he immediately parked to the side.

In the midst of cars honking Gavin yelled at her. "Are you crazy!"

Vivienne looked him dead in the eye. Then she turned, and immediately unlocked the door. As soon as she stepped out, she shut the door with a thud.

Angrily, Gavin drove away, screeching through the tarred highway roads. If she was going to start acting stupid all because of what had happened, this was just the beginning of her stupidity.

Vivienne, on the other hand, stood by the roadside, watching cars drive past. She was in the middle of nowhere and she had to walk a long way before she was able to get to the foot of the bridge. Her phone buzzed in her pocket and when she checked to see the caller, it was Marcus. She sighed in relief and hoped that he had good news to relay.

"Hey, Vivienne." Marcus said from the other end. "Where are you right now?"

"I don't know." Vivienne replied looking around. She could only see cars and an overhead view of a few buildings. It was nearing evening and soon, the gas lamps would be lit.

"What do you mean by you don't know? A picture of you standing helplessly at the bridge is circulating the internet. Where the hell are you?"

Vivienne broke into tears. "I don't know!"

Marcus sighed. He was really busy and did not need any of Vivienne's theatrics right now. "Did you walk to the bridge?"

Vivienne sniffled and shook her head, even if he wasn't seeing her. "Gavin."

"What did Gavin do?"

"I asked him to drop me off here. He was becoming too insensitive and overly annoying."

"Why the hell would he do—" Marcus began, then cut himself short. "Do you have your phone with you?"

"Yeah, I do."

"Alright. I want you to call a trusted person. Might be a personal chauffeur because an Uber wouldn't want to locate you there."

"Okay. I'll do that now."

Before the call ended, Marcus asked. "Did you tell anything regarding what we talked about to Gavin or Amelia?"

"No, I did not." She lied.

"Better. I have to go now. Go make that call, okay?"

"Sure."

As soon as the beep sounded to notify her of the call ending, she dug her manicured fingers into her hair. She had fucked everything up.

Looking around now, with no one beside her, she realized her selfish Gavin was. Immediately giving in to her request and driving away without caring about her safety. As she scrolled through her call log, her eyes hit Amelia's number. She contemplated on calling her friend and decided against it, not wanting to fuck things up the second time.

If her best friend cared enough, she would have called her hours ago.

So, she scrolled past and dialled Trent's number. Trent was one of her off-on chauffeurs and she only contacted him when she had a special place to attend. She hoped he wasn't too busy to drive over where she was to pick her.

At the fourth ring, Trent picked up.

"Hello, Miss. To what do I owe this special call?"

Vivienne couldn't help but smile. Trent was a cheerful man who had no angry bone in him and his jovial personality was quite infectious. She was already smiling.

"Hi, Trent. How's it going?"

"Well, Miss." He replied.

Vivienne said a silent prayer before making her request. "So, uhm. I'm kind of stuck in the middle of a bridge and I am without a means of transportation. Can you come pick me up if you're not busy?"

"Uhm, I'm actually driving through the third intersection and will soon be getting to the bridge but I have someone with me."

Vivienne immediately squinted her eyes to look at the green billboard above. This was leading to the third intersection!

"Yes, yes!" She jumped. "You'll see me soon. I am right where you'll soon be driving through."

"That's nice." There was a catch in his voice. "But, I have someone with me. I don't think it'll be a good idea to ruin my impeccable services."

Vivienne was on the brink of losing hope. She made her last request. "Can you tell him what's going on? Explain the situation to him. I'll be grateful, Trent."

Trent sighed and was silent for a while before he spoke. "I'll try."

The line was silent for a whole but Trent didn't end the call so she waited. Several seconds later, he was back on the phone. "I'm sorry, Vivienne. He's quite the strict type and asked that he wants no one in with him."

This was Vivienne's last try. That was it. She would be here till whenever Trent was done with his services.

"How much is he paying you?" Vivienne asked. "I'll triple it."

"Uhh— I don't really know about that."

Vivienne smiled. His tone showed that he was contemplating on what she had just said. No one would refuse such an offer. She knew how much he charged for his services and getting a triple for it was like chilling in your home and getting paid for nothing.

Trent sighed. "Alright. I'll meet you soon."

Vivienne pumped her fist into the air, nearly crying in delight. "Thank you so much, Trent."

"But, uhm… you'll have to sort yourself out with the passenger. I haven't informed him yet. He seems influential and is likely to get pissed if I cut to the side. "

"Don't worry about that. I'll take care of it."

It was nearing evening and the tiredness of having to be out the whole day kicked in. Vivienne first felt it in her knees as she paced about and no sooner than later, she began to feel a slight thud at the back of her head. Her eyes were weary and she was sure that she looked like the devil's incarnate. Who would be dressed in running clothes by this time of the evening?

In no time, she saw bright headlights and immediately recognized Trent's limo. Then his voice came back. "Can you see the limo? I put my light to the brightest."

Vivienne moved forward, standing almost in the middle of the road and she waved as she jumped up and down.

The lights beeped and the left trafficator was turned on. Vivienne rushed up to the car, smiling in glee and filled with so much joy that she almost forgot that she had bigger problems waiting ahead of her. Trent wound down his glass.

"Hey!" He called out. "What are you doing out here by this time of the night?"

"It's a long story, Trent. I need to be home quickly."

"Alright." He replied and unlocked the doors. "I'm sorry, but you'll have to open the doors yourself."

Vivienne waved him off. She was extremely grateful that he had inconvenienced himself and his customer just to pick her up. She pulled the door open with force and slipped in. It was hard to shut the doors but she finally did and mentally patted herself on the back.

"Man, today was really crazy." Vivienne began, referring to Trent who chuckled slightly and continued driving.

"You're the lady whose picture is all over the internet? The famous jeweler?" A voice said from beside her.

Vivienne's heart lurched. She almost had a heart attack and when she turned to look at who was beside her, she was met with dark eyes.
