Chapter 34: Sparrow in Prison

Pei Ye turned his head back; the Black Cat was squatting next to the lamp by the door, its paw still cradling a white, round Dan medicine as it nibbled.

These past few days, it hardly took a break from eating; whatever it saw, it grabbed and ate. Last time, unable to refrain himself, he frowned and asked the cat, only to receive a calm reply, "Pei Ye, I'm still growing."

After a visit to Xu Chuo, the cat came back wearing a small brocade pouch on its neck, strung with black silk and red thread. Pei Ye opened it to find a jade box inside, which contained five Five-Colored Elixirs. According to the cat, it asked for them when they first met Xu Chuo.

Pei Ye was dumbfounded at the time because while the cat would be the one eating the medicine, he was quite sure it would be him who had to pay back the favour.

He could afford to keep a cat himself; why must it eat so well?
