Spider-Sense

The ace in the hole for all spider-people, It's safe to say that this ability is probably one of the most common yet crucial within almost all spiders. A power that separates Spider-Man from any other hero or villain due to its sheer capabilities.

To summarize the basics of this power, it pretty much acts as intended: a sixth sense. This sense is a danger to alert the spider person of any incoming trouble, not just personal but any source of danger around them. The alert comes in the form of a tingling sensation that goes off in the back of the skull, and the feeling goes off to a wide range of situations. From a bomb that's about to go off, sniper fire, assassination attempts, or when you're late for work, and you want to make a quick bowl of cereal, but you failed to check its expiration date.

Spider-sense has even what I would call its different variances. For example, Cindy will have the same spider sense as Peter- I mean me, yet since we were both bitten by the same spider, Cindy could track my location at any time. Even if I'm in another dimension, she calls this her "Silk Sense," at least from what the memories told me about her comics.

I am not going to lie; it's nice to know if I ever need help, I have an ally (maybe) to be able to give me. However, it makes her sound more like a superpower stalker the more I think about it. Hot, but scary. 'Hmmm...I wonder if I could do the same thing with her. Would it be like the force link from Star Wars?'

Where was I? Right, back on track. The spider sense has been shown through my memories to be adaptable in many other ways. Martial arts, technology, and even the Mystic Arts have all been helpful with the help of this sixth sense. There's also the fact that spider sense is deeply rooted in the Web of Life in Destiny, but I want to stay far away from thinking about that right now.

These were my thoughts while walking through the streets of Harlem, nearing where I would begin testing this sixth sense of mine. Finding that the close was clear of both onlookers and cameras, I quickly jumped over the 15ft brick wall with ease onto the property of an old abandoned warehouse off the side of a dockyard. Though few, Manhattan doesn't lack empty buildings, most likely to be used for local crime dealing. I, however, got a bit lucky when finding this place since it used to be a drug-dealing hotspot back in the early 90s but was later shut down. Since then, it had become a small home for a few of the city's homeless, but with a bit of bribery of some good food plus easy access to some homeless shelters that May volunteered for, it helped to vacate this place.

I did think about making the place a sort of base in the past; however, with the fact that there's a police station just down the street, I held off on that idea.

After checking that the lock was still as I left it, I was about to open it back up but stopped as I asked myself, 'Wait, Why the fuck am I using the door?'. So, after again checking my surroundings, I super-jumped onto the warehouse and started wall-crawling. 'Aww, with great power sometimes comes excellent conveniences, and who doesn't love conveniences?'

Jumping inside from a side window, doing a superhero landing, I was greeted by a familiar old and partly empty building. The only things present were softballs lettered throughout the area and a small workstation with a couple of slabs of metal on top of it. The four human-size torrent-looking machines were facing each other within a now-faded chalk circle.

"Welp, Let's hurry up and get this test started," I said while setting my duffel bag down and cracking my knuckles.

---

"Alright, just need to place you somewhere safe," I said upon setting up the camera. Once done, I looked over my testing grounds, feeling something was off."Wait," I moved the camera a little to the right. "Perfect!" grabbing the final pieces I needed, I waited three seconds before pressing the record button and walking toward the circle.

"We're rolling, neat! Okay, this is day three of what I like to call the Understanding Montage. Usually, I wouldn't bother with recording myself, but for this test, it's needed. Now then..." I proceed to place earplugs in my ears before putting on a blindfold. "Let's get this party started."

Nearly a week, that's how long it was since the sad attempt of a mugging I was in. Which was also the only time my spider sense tingled. Sure, there may have been some instances when it went off now and then, but I never noticed it like the first time. Time seemed to slow; my perception seemed to make out the smallest of details around me, and the tingling went off in the back of my head. The whole experience was almost like how they portrayed it in that Toby movie, yet I felt there was more to it. Something I couldn't quite point out back then. That's what this test is for to know how my spider sense feels and see if my theory about an oddity was correct because I don't remember telling my body to move back then as if it moved on its own.

Limbering myself up, I count down, "In 3..."

"2..."

"1..."

"始める!(Hajimeru!)" with that audio command, I stood in the center of the white circle, knowing I had also activated the turrets.

Already knowing what the premise of Spider-Sense is makes it manageable to set it off prematurely. That's why I made these four things two weeks before the trip to Oscorp. The original plan was to use these to help my baby twin get used to his Peter tingle and dodging while using it. Each of these turrets has 100 softballs and can not only track targets but can shoot softballs up to the same speed as a handgun. Hell, depending on how well Pete would've done, we could've devised a way to recreate the way of the spider or at least a bootleg version of it.

However, that plan has blown up in my face, or better yet, bit me in the next. But you can't look a gift horse in the mouth, 'Man, that phase is weird.' luckily, this spider had something prepared. So it can't be all bad, right?

'Alright, Alex, you can't see, can't hear, and you set the turrets to random. Just focus on the feeling and don't think about moving-'

A tingling sensation coming from the back of my skull stopped my train of thought. Wait, now the tingling is coming from the left side of my head? Now, it's coming from the front and the right. I could also feel the hair stand up from different body parts like I was getting goosebumps. Currently, I couldn't see or hear anything, but somehow, I could feel that time all around me was slowing down to a crawl while I was sensitive to the disturbances in the air surrounding me. Still, I stood there waiting for the incoming impact. 'Heck, even if it hits me, the worst it will do is sting a little. Might be an excellent opportunity to test my-'

*Fwoosh*...Did I just sidestep something?

*Fwoosh* Now I ducked.

*Fwoosh*...

*Fwoosh*...

*Fwoosh*...

I was unsure about what was currently happening. There I could not use most of my primary senses in a mock dangerous scenario, only using my spider sense, and I was easily dodging everything. The tingling was ever-pivoting back and forth all over my skull as if it were a broken compass while the hair on my body wouldn't go down. Yet, the weirdest thing that stood out to me was the fact that my body was doing all this without my control.

After training in mixed martial arts for the past eight years, I'm pretty confident in my ability to control my body and instincts, but this was different. Every step, twist, jump, and flip was easily performed as if I could still see and hear the onslaughts of softballs through my spider sense. It was like my body was almost moving automatically without, mostly, having to think.

This continued for ten minutes of me unthinkingly dodging, though it wasn't completely perfect as there had been a couple of close calls. I was barely paying this any attention since I was focusing on how the spider sense felt, quickly trying to block any other thought. And I must say...

"Hehehehehahahaha!"

It felt pretty good. Is this how the OG, scratch that, how the other spiders felt with their powers? Is having superpowers always this... exciting and unreal? Sure, I'm well aware of the other instances where this isn't the case. Heck, I never knew this would happen to me, nor did I want it at first. Yet, after these three days of testing them out and everything I've learned, I couldn't help but really enjoy it all.

A bright smile formed on my face as I dodged. Never since I first started MMA have I had this much fun in something. I felt stronger, faster, and overall better than I've ever been in this life. Hell, possibly the last one, too. My heart was beating fast with adrenaline that I almost overlooked my spider sense stop tingling. Taking off the blindfold and earplugs, I looked around the area with the slightest trace of fatigue, all while my smile was still on my face.

Once again, the place was littered with softballs everywhere. I could even make out a few minor dents on some of the walls. My turrets were slowly powering themselves down automatically due to the lack of ammunition.

*huff* *huff*, "Wooooooow! Holy shit, that was amazing! Is that how spider sense was supposed to be employed? I mean, it allowed most other spiders to fight while also blinded, but I've never thought it would be that effective." to say that I was satisfied with the test would be a poor choice of words. I felt untouchable; those turrets held 200 softballs each, and all I got was a couple of grazes.

Knowing that I still wasn't done with testing, I took this moment to calm down. "Alright, Alex, as fun as that may be, you're not yet done gathering data." I said while stopping the recording, hardly controlling my excitement at watching the playback. "I should get something to eat after this; being an overall badass works up the appetite. I think there's enough time for brunch!"

That said, I found a comfortable seat and began replaying the whole test, as my smile was still plastic on my face.

3rd Person Pov

---

This world-future Spider-man focuses all his attention on the recording of his abilities, stopping a few times to chart down notes in childlike wonder. Utterly unaware that he wasn't entirely alone in the warehouse as someone was watching Alex hard at work. Swinging her legs freely in the air, a young girl wearing a rather ornate toga rested on one of the ceiling support beams without care. Her knowing gaze locked on Alex as a joyful smile formed on her face, noticing that he was starting to have fun.

"Hehe, if you think that was cool, I'm sure this is only the beginning of something amazing! No, wait, not amazing, but legendary!" she said before squealing in childlike excitement. "Oh, I can't wait for you to get the swing of things; this is going to be so awesome!"

~A/N: Your eyes are not deceiving you, and you're not in the Twilight Zone. I've finally managed to post two chapters in the same mouth again.

Anyway, I hope this one makes up for the lackluster last chapter for you guys cause everyone likes your friendly neighborhood, Alex. Also, yes, I know the montage is taking a little longer to finish. I blame pacing and my schedule for that, but don't worry, we're nearly done with it.

Anyway, please feel free to comment and review the story. The more you do so, the more it pushes me; let's see if we can make this story great.
