Pin Of Luck

NOWEL

The pitter-patter sound of the little gleaming drops of silver woke me up from my slumber. I removed the heavy chunk of material wrapped around my slim body to keep me warm and ran to the balcony to see if I was not too late. I cursed in an unladylike manner as I saw hundreds of horses outside in unbearable weather. Team B prepares to take off to the forbidden temple.

Oh no.

Team A left to get their task done last night and Team C would leave in the afternoon. I had no time to change or dress up as Team B was about to leave. I can't let them go without seeing Michael.

I had no time to waste in changing into a proper dress as I hurried out of the room like a lightning bolt.

My heart raced heavily as I got to the castle stairs outside and trotted down to meet with the departing team. I shivered as my skin made contact with the liquid precipitation. My hair and night garment were soaking gradually because of the heavy downpour.

Everyone was startled by my behavior and stared as I moved around desperately in search of Michael.

"Jordan! Have you...have you seen Michael?" I asked one of the team members as the rain beat down on my pale skin.

"Princess...my princess! What are you doing here under the rain?" He asked as his retina almost fell off his eyes due to the shock.

"Michael. Have you seen Michael?" I whispered out of breath and because I was already freezing due to the cold and rain.

He nodded with concern all over his face.

"Where is he?"

He pointed at a brown horse not too far from where we were. And there he was. My beautiful demon. His long hair was tied in a long ponytail that reached his lower back, soaking wet along with his uniform.

He was getting ready to leave and a sigh escaped my trembling lips at the horror that awaited him in the temple of doom.

I suddenly felt guilty for doing nothing to stop him from going on this suicide mission.

I moved over to him and the clouds darkened to deluge us with raindrops.

"Michael," I called out softly. He turned around to welcome me with a frown on his face.

I wonder how he is still gorgeous despite the frown he wears every day on his face.

We stared at each other in silence as the rain poured hard on us.

"What are you doing here?" He asked.

"I wanted...to see you and wish you good luck," I answered as my hair stuck to my face, dripping wet. His eyes were darker and even more attractive when you stared at them in the rain. I could still see the faint traces of red in them.

"I don't need it." He dismissed with a hard look. Did I...offend him or he is not in a good mood? Who am I kidding, he has never been in a good mood before.

"Okay, fine. I won't wish you good luck." I said with a downcast face.

"But...I am here to give you good luck."

I brought out the little hairpin in a dragon-like shape that my mom usually wears for good luck whenever she goes to battle. It has served her right throughout her life, and I'm hoping it would do so for a demon.

I moved closer and gently placed the little hairpin in his beautiful, long, wet hair. He gave me a confusing look at my actions. Even I was a little bit startled at my boldness.

"What did you do to me?" He grumbled.

"I did nothing to you. It's a hairpin and it's completely harmless." I replied."I want you to wear it for good luck and..." Did my heart just clench painfully at what am about to say next? Either way, I moved closer to him and wrapped my arms around his rigid body. "Stay. alive. for me."

He stiffened when I placed my head on his hard chest. What in the hell am I doing? I wondered in confusion.

A startled gasp escaped my lips as he roughly pulled me away from his body, I lost balance and became one with the marshy soil.

He turned around to mount his horse without sparing me a second glance.

"My lady!" Caroline rushed over to pick me up from the mud and carried me inside. I watched him in a blur as he rode away with the others.

I felt empty and lonely the father he went. My neck itched and I wondered why.

I have been feeling a lot of sensations around my neck ever since that tragic snake bite. I rubbed it off and watched them journey in the rain to determine their fate. I felt overconfident that he would return victorious and not because of the pin of luck...but because he has something greater than the wraiths that dwell in the forbidden temple.

Something much stronger. A demon as a parasite. I smiled.
