A Night Of Respite

When I finally returned to the Silver Castle, it was already well past dusk. Evening had come and the night along with. The dark sky above lingered with twinkling stars. Two moons permeated the sea of sparkling light, sharing a pale and dim brightness that basked the land with a calm hue. 

I summoned a portal just outside the main gate, not bothering to conceal my magic nor my arrival. The guards on duty panicked when they saw the air split open into a golden doorway. Many were shouting for the alarm to be raised but quickly reneged when I stepped through and appeared before them.

The officer in charge, a High Paladin Beastkin, repelled down one of the towers and came up to me with a concerned and unsure look on his red-haired face. A group of heavily armed guards fell in behind him.
