First Flying Lesson

~~~(POV: Alexander Aevum)~~~
~~~(Location: Flying Class, Hogwarts)~~~

~~~(Date: September 10th, 1991)~~~
~~~(Time: 9:21 AM)~~~

The last week of school was slow, mainly from being stuck in my classes. I only got to train in The Room Of Requirement 3 times, and Albus could only show up for one. Professor McGonagall is watching me. Making sure I'm in almost all my classes.

Well, it comes with a bonus. I get to spend time with kids my age and be a part of a group in the same situation as me. Learning about magic and the world that comes with it.

Aside from Albus, Neville is the person I've been spending the most time with. Granger has her own friends and spends time with me when she can. But lately, she's been around Weasley and Potter. Since we're all in the same house, we all know and talk to each other.

But that's neither here nor there. Cause today is the first lesson on flying. House Slytherin is sharing with our house today.

"Are we really learning to fly on broomsticks today?"

The voice of one Potter takes my attention as I turn to my left. He's with his friend Weasley, and I can see Granger across from them.

Before anyone can answer his question, Ms. Rolanda Hooch, our teacher. Makes her way over, grabbing everyone's attention. She explains what flying a broomstick means and why certain things are important.

In my own words, I'd describe it as...

Blah, blah, and more blah.

We're not even flying our brooms today. We're just learning how to get them off the ground by saying up and getting on them.

The Weasley boy takes an attempt at the face, and that causes a few of us to laugh. And I'll admit, it's funny. Potter gets it on his first time.

I look down at the broomstick and think about something I could be learning that would be helpful. Leave knowing to ride a broomstick to those that want to play Quidditch. Malfoy stares at Potter after he gets his broomstick up after the first try too.

Malfoy has since diverted his attention from me and turned them to Potter or anyone else he feels he can turn them to.

Nothing has really happened since he was taken back to house Slytherin by Snape. The hold on his mind is gone, and whoever had it meant to do something with it.

But what?

"Aevum! Why aren't you trying to summon your broom? C'mon boy, show me what you've got!"

My thought process is interrupted by Madam Hooch, and I'm forced to look back down at the broom. I hold out my hand. As I'm about to open my mouth and say the word, I don't get a chance.

Neville goes flying past me on his out-of-control broom.

A broom shouldn't act like that. Ever.

"What's going on..."

I overhear Weasley's question to Granger. That's something I'd like to know. We all watch as Neville is thrown around on his broom. Eventually, getting hung on a statue and falling a good distance.

Madam Hooch takes off with Neville. Leaving all the students alone.

"Was it bewitched..."

The whisper leaves my lips for only me to hear. Everyone is encircling Malfoy and Potter. There is some scene going on. But this is a chance for me to slip away. But I know better than going anywhere without an excuse.

Professor McGonagall will catch me as she has. And she'll ensure that if I don't have a reason for being out of class, she'll tighten the rope around me a bit more.

"Neville..."

I should check on a friend. It was a nasty fall.

Since the good energy is gone from Harry's victory is gone, my attention tries to find my first friend since coming to Hogwarts. But, as I look for him. All I'm left with is an answer no one gave me.

Alex has run off somewhere.

"What does he do, and where does he go..."

These questions have been on my mind for a while now, and I'm doing my best to stay out of Alex's business. But I'm worried about him. Whenever we're in class, he's not even paying attention.

Just because you're smart enough to do all the assignments and pass all the tests doesn't mean you shouldn't ignore the teachers.
