Chapter 1: Just a dream?

June 17, 2166 02:55:45 am. "Hello? ..... can anyone hear me?", Lenny shouted. Lenny had woken up to find himself in a small white room which he could not remember how he got there. He remembered very well that he had gone to bed in his room the day before, he could not fathom how or when he got there.At first, he thought it was a dream but after pinching himself and feeling the pain he realized that it was not a dream at all. He tried calling out a few times but he could only hear the echo of his own voice shouting back at him. He then realized that there was no door or windows in the small room, so he decided to preserve his strength instead of exhausting himself since there was no one in the room anyway.Lenny was a seventeen-year-old lad born into a family of four. His father and mother; Jared and Mary had two kids. Lenny was the first born and was going to turn eighteen on June 26th. His younger sister, Lizzy had just turned thirteen on June 5th. Lenny was in his first year of university after he completed high school. He was currently undertaking computer engineering in the university of Green Valley. It was one of the lowest universities in the nation. This was the reason why the students who went there were those who did not get high grades from high school or those who could not afford higher level universities. Lenny was among those who could not afford higher level universities since he had graduated from high school with a perfect score of 1200 out of 1400. This was considered one of the best performances since the top student nationwide had obtained 1275 points.Sadly, Lenny could not afford higher level universities so he had to settle for Green Valley. Even then he was struggling just to pay his tuition fees and therefore he had to do some odd jobs to help his parents pay for the same."Now, now what do we have here….", Lenny was awoken from his thought process by a feminine voice. He looked up and realized that he was still in the white room. The voice seemed to be all over the place hence Lenny could not pin point its origin. "Who… who's there...? please let me out!", Lenny started hitting the wall while shouting. He hoped that the person had spoken could hear him and help him to get out of the weird room. "What do you mean let you out? only you can let yourself out of this place boy". The voice answered. Lenny was confused, "what, there is no door in this place. How can I get out?". "this is a system space Lenny, your System space. The Warrior system has merged with your body and will be living inside you from today. All you have to do is perform a task for the system and you will be able to get out of here", The voice explained."Which task?". Lenny asked the unknown voice. "Do 30 press-ups and you will be able to get out of here". WHAT? 30 press-ups?!! Lenny was devastated. He had never done any type of exercise since he was 10 years old in fourth grade. Now he was supposed to do the push-ups that he used to fear back then. And 30 of them? Lenny was now sure that this person was messing up with him."30 is too much. I cannot even do 10 push-ups without resting and you are telling me that I have to do 30?", Lenny complained. The voice laughed sinisterly then said, "oh, I forgot that you are a pathetic fellow who never does physical training, haha. Okay you can do 10, then you will have to compensate the other 20 once you are outside." Lenny did not want to argue anymore and did as the voice told him albeit with great difficulty. When he was done Lenny was sweating buckets."Task completed…initiating system…...Welcome! Lenny jones, you are the new system host. you can complete tasks to earn points which will be used to enhance your strength, speed, endurance…etc. You can also complete quests given by the system to gain more points. Now, if you want to get out of the system space just think about it and you will be back in the outside world". Lenny's head was aching from trying to sort out the information that was being given by this so-called 'system'."Get me out of here". Lenny said while sighing to himself. His vision blurred and for a few moments he saw only darkness. Then his vision started clearing and he saw the familiar ceiling of his room. 'Sigh, at last....so it was just a dream' he thought while picking up his phone to check the time. It was quarter past five in the morning, just the perfect time for him to prepare himself and go to school since he had two classes today."Good morning host! Time to get out of bed and start a new day!" Lenny almost jumped out of bed when he heard a female electronic voice speaking. "Am I hallucinating? I thought that was a dream?" Lenny asked himself astonished that the voice he had heard in his dream was talking to him again. "No Lenny that wasn't a dream. You have merged with the Warrior system; you just need to think about it and the system interface will appear in front of you. Why don't you try it?". The female voice said. "Okay…System interface" Lenny thought since there was no harm in trying anyway. Immediately after thinking that, Lenny was taken aback by what he saw in front of his eyes. It resembled those virtual reality games that people used to play in the 2050s. The words were written in a style that was mostly used in watches to display time.
