"Mother," Zëäl's voice cut Elizabeth off in her contemplation.
But just as she shifted her attention toward the familiar speaker, she grinned.
Because of her struggles, Elizabeth (like Zëäl) had a dark lifeless pupil. Her fears could be seen in her pupils even now, but as she heard Zëäl's voice, her dark dead, yet lovely pupils sprang to life. Light flickers as it gently shakes with slight wetness.
Zëäl approached, but so did Ching Marvel. And when Elizabeth observed someone with her son who appeared to be snooping about, she scowled.
Zëäl realized why his mother had scowled and took a longer stride.
Zëäl grinned as he stood before his mother (only his mother should witness that miracle).
Elizabeth knelt for Zëäl, her son, to fully embrace her.
"Mother, I apologize for not visiting these days," Zëäl said softly, regretting not following his pledge.
