Pieces

The little things were different. My hair was messy, and down. My clothes were odd, and not very protective. I was wearing just a thin cloth of almost see-through fabric as a shirt, that didn't quite cover my midriff. On the bottom half, I was wearing a short skirt, that landed in the middle of my thigh. For shoes, I wasn't wearing my normal boots, I was wearing odd white shoes, with the letters KED, on the back of them. At least the skirt was my power level color.

The sky was beautiful. At home it normal had a thick haze of fog, so you could never see anything above it. It was so much more than I'd ever hoped it to be.

I was now hiding on the side of one of the brick buildings, my back to the forest that lay behind. I had been on the grass in front of the last house on the row, so it was easy to hide in the shadows beside the house while I watched, fascinated.

The sun was starting to peak over the mountains, laying a light orange gleam across the sky. I heard rustling, and then a click. My head turned to the sound, to see another person scurrying along the outskirts of the forest.

I went to them, and it took them a long time to notice me. I was practically beside them before they looked to see who it was.

"Ferren?" I questioned, as he looked me in the eyes. I'd remember his eyes anywhere.

"What is going on? Where are we?" He asked, a little bit of panic making it into his voice, "And where's our armor..? Is this how they kill us, armor less and weaponless?"

I paused, "Who's they?"

"The group that attacked each quarter separately. Do you remember?"

I thought for a moment. I did remember. Why hadn't I'd thought sooner?

I frantically checked up my arms, for any signs of the fight. Confusion swirled my brain.

"What are you doing?" Ferren asked, worry in his eyes.

"I-i was dead, or I thought I was. The one who attacked us, the dragoness. She scratched all up my arms and face. She called herself Feline Killer," I informed him.

"Odd," He answered, I could see the gears working in his expression. "We were attacked by a mosquito-like creature. It never stated it's name, but I saw it drinking the nymph blood from one of my friends. I thought that was how it killed me."

I put the pieces together. "They found a way,"

He looked at me, not understanding.

"The war that happened awhile ago, the one my mother died in, there was a way. One person figured out how to get rid of us and get to Earth. They must have figured it out," I thought for a moment. "Of course. Dragoness, we were killed by something that would scrape us up and leave us there, unable to run. A mosquito sucked the nymphs blood, unable to pollinate. The ogres must have been taken out by something that stopped them from being able to build, like cutting their hands off or something."

Ferren cut in, "And the demons were tortured."

I looked to him, "Exactly. They took away the advantages we had against them."

We both understood now. Ferren then spoke,

"Then why aren't we dead?"

I thought for a moment, then took a guess. "They want us to have front row seats when they take-over the world."
