Not a Normal Day at Work

After getting my bearings right I enquired which of the three would go first. To which the eldest of the group replied,

"That would be them." Pointing at twins as they jumped in excitement.

I nod in approval and walk to the other side of the arena.

"Although I have a request."

A request? For what reason?

"What do you wish to….. Request?"

With a slight tone of annoyance she says.

"Can both of them take the exam together?"

"Together...… Before I make the decisions may I ask for your age? The three of you?"

"Sure thing, the twins behind me are 14 while I am 19."

14? So they are about the same age as Rosaria!

"Alright I'll grant your request, since they are twins, and they barely pass the age restriction for adventurers."

The twins once again jump in excitement as the older of the three starts walking towards the viewing area.

"Well, good luck Aqua, Solaire."

Hm... Interesting set of names they have.

I grab a wooden staff considering both of them are not unarmed..

"Alright, here are the rules of this match. The match shall end when the two of you are incapable of fighting or when you yield. Do not cast spells that would harm the arena or the other examinees. Lastly, do not try to kill or gravely injure me. Got it?"

They both nod in response.

"Very well. Then….."

I ready my staff and take on a stance.

"Let us begin!"

As soon as I say those words, they both perform two simple spells, but at their age it would take quite the amount of mana mastery to cast it at this speed.

[Fireball]

[Water Sphere]

The boy casts a fireball at me, it was particularly smaller than the average fireball. The girl meanwhile casted a sphere of water, a basic but effective defensive spell.

But I noticed the fireball was oddly slow, it took its time as it slowly approached me, and this was when I realized.

This was not just an ordinary fireball.

[Hovering Fireball]

The fireball exploded, a subtle pain enveloped my hands and a part of my chest as one of my handguards were heavily damaged.

"Oh come on! It hasn't even been a year…."

Focusing my gaze on the twins, I dodge a small mana projectile that was aimed for me.

From the corner of my eye I noticed the girl charging an attack.

[Surging Stream]

It was almost as if a wave was coming down on me, but this was nothing.

[Lightning Cutter]

As I imbued my hand with lightning, making it take the form of a small blade. A single swift slice was enough to split the small wave apart.

"What!?"

The girl exclaimed in shock, this spell was probably never stopped before.

[Ember Pillar]

I jump back as I feel a surge of mana below me. As soon as I landed on the ground, a mediocre pillar of flames engulfed the area I was just in.

"Tch!"

Focusing on the girl I manage to spot the boy with peripheral vision. I duck and dodge a flame infused punch, taking advantage of him being wide open, I grab his hand and judo throws him at his sister. With a large "Thud", they both collide with each other and go crashing into the ground.

"And that settles it. You were both impressive, you must've awakened at a young age to be able to cast those spells with ease. Your attacks were well coordinated which is a plus since coordination is a key element when you become adventurers. But you were too aggressive and did not plan your next moves, so because of that….."

Mira then hands me a sheet of paper with their names.

"Solaire and Aqua Retinas! C class!"

Retinas... That's a name I haven't heard in quite a while.
