Pat raised her eyebrows in comment, then turned in her chair and, reaching out to the bookshelf to her right, picked out a small black hardbound notebook. From this she extracted a pen that apparently fitted cleverly into the spine of the book, and began to write.
“Out of seventy-eight cards—” she murmured.
“Why seventy-eight?”
“That’s how many cards are in a traditional Tarot deck.”
“Oh.” Like I always said, Pat knew pretty much everything.
“So,” she continued, “we ignore the twenty-two Major Arcana—”
“The first of four cards, can be anything—but not one of the twenty-two Major Arcana—”
I grunted but said nothing.
