Clans of the Sanraisu

"Clans are classified as three separate segments. These are called, Noble Clans, Great Clans, and Big Clans. The clans are divided into these segments according to their numbers and sometimes to their war potential and military power.

Noble Clans, have to at least have a number of ten thousand people in their ranks. There are only four noble clans and they were fighting alongside the emperor back in the imperial age. Each noble clan has three great clans they have under its rule. Meaning they were the biggest part of the old military of the Sanraisu.

For the Great Clans, it's a bit different. They usually have more than a thousand and less than ten thousand people in their ranks. There is an exception for this. Tsukine Clan. I will explain it a bit later. Anyway, my clan was also part of this segment. Great clans are under the rule of noble clans because in the past some great clans tried to rebel. They have perished at the hands of the noble clans but they still caused heavy damage to the country. To make sure that something like this never happens again noble clans created the current system. They are always suppressing each other and creating somewhat balance although it's fragile.

And lastly Big Clans. They have less than a thousand people in their ranks. They also have larger numbers compared to noble and great clans but in total, they are the weakest of them all. They are counted as big clans because when Emperor Hideaki died, a big civil war happened. Even history books are written this civil war but they didn't write the truth about it. The real reason for that civil war was the emperor died at the hands of an exiled clan member.

Civilians and the supporters of the royal family used this as an excuse to wage war against the clans. It's also because the clans were getting increasingly stronger and becoming a threat to the royal family. At the end of this war, many clans perished and were left with just a couple of members. Of course in the same civil war both noble and great clans also suffered but before they get any serious damage they left the country and only come back decades later when the current emperor of that time begged them to return. But other clans refused to leave their home country and stayed to fight. They lost. Many of the clans were wiped out and the remaining ones had suffered so much that they weren't even able to be recognized as clans."

Izumi explained the general situation of the clans to Oscar. Sanraisu was one of the countries with the most known history in the world. They were known for their hundreds of clans. Back in the old ages, the country itself was just a coalition of many clans. Compared to the rest of the world this was an unusual government style of that era.

The coalition of clans is going back as far as the year 152. The first recorded document about the coalition of clans is from that year. And that document is a contract signed between several clans. This is what the normal side of the world knows. As for the supernatural world, Oscar had no idea. He only thought that the history of the clans may be even longer than what is known to the world.

Oscar knew from the history books that there were constant wars in the Sanraisu of the old time. This coalition of clans didn't last long and they kept destroying one another.

Izumi continued to talk about the clans. After explaining the general background she this time explained one of them.

"Tsukine Clan. They have reportedly only over four hundred members. But they are still one of the most dangerous clans that exist. Their danger level is just below the four noble clans. The reason why they are this dangerous is... their bloodline power. They possess special eyes that are called 'Shojigan'. Shojigan is a yellow eye with a black ring around the black pupil. They are also called golden-eyed bastards.

Shojigan is known as possession eye. It allows users to possess anyone that whom they make eye connections. They can possess and control those people however they want. They can use them and once they leave the body they possess, the person who was possessed had no memories of the time they have been possessed. The only known way to counter is to have another special eye or strong mind barrier. But once you fall under that possession you can't escape. Because of this ability of them they are one of the most dangerous clans that exist. As for their numbers, I heard that they have a genetic disease that causes them to die at early ages."

"That's one troublesome ability..."

The shojigan was a troublesome eye and its ability was dangerous. Oscar nervously gulped. He imagined that with this ability one man can control every civilian that he faced. If they somehow possess someone with enough influence they can even cause wars to happen. This was certainly a dangerous ability to have.

"Is there no way to defend against this eye?"

"...I once heard that with meditation you can strengthen your mind but I don't know if that would be enough. I never heard someone who was able to resist this ability except with those who have special eyes or those with have techniques to strengthen and protect their minds."

Oscar frowned. He also heard that meditation strengthens the mind but that would only happen if you meditate for years. He didn't want to rely on a method that takes years and even then it was only a possibility.

'There might be something about improving a person's mind or increasing their mental barriers in the Hex Clan Library or Undine Clan Library. I'll have to ask Kairi about this too.'

Oscar thought deeply about how to counter shojigan. It scared him to think about it. He felt the need to protect himself from this fearsome ability.

'Is this some kind of a warning that my third eye is giving me?'

"Can you tell me about the Noble Clans? You implied that they are even more dangerous than Tsukine Clan. How dangerous they are exactly?"

"The four noble clans, Hanakumo, Tenhi, Harido and Hikusari. Let me begin with the Hanakumo clan. They are the strongest of the noble clans at the moment. The last time I heard they had over fifteen thousand members. They also have special eyes and special abilities. It's an eye called Hanagan and its evolved form, Soshungan.

Hanagan is an eye that has a flower motif instead of the pupil and has a black iris. I heard that every Hanagan's flower motif is slightly different from others and sometimes its color can be different too but usually flower motifs would be pink or orange. It gives resistance against shojigan's abilities and allows them to use something called flower element and some special abilities named after flowers. I don't know much about those abilities named after flowers.

And for the Soshungan... anyone who came across someone has it, they died. So only thing known about it is that it's the evolved form of the Hanagan. This is also one of the reasons they are the most dangerous clans. Their main ability has evolved form and its powers are unknown.

Hanakumo clan has Nakajima, Okamoto, and Soramichi clans under their rule. They used to be the strongest among the four coalitions of the noble clans. But in the rebellion a few years ago they fell in second place. They are of course not happy with it."

"That's dangerous. The unknown is often scarier than known dangers."

Oscar was reminded of his powerlessness as he listens to these pieces of information about the clans. Aside from the huge difference in numbers, their powers and abilities were worlds apart from each other. They were clans with thousands of years to cultivate and improve their abilities while he has his powers for just a month.

Compared to ordinary humans he was incredibly strong. But that's only for ordinary humans and at most against the beings with the power level of Inferior Class. He has the power level of Medium Class and he achieved it only recently. So that's why he was feeling powerless.

"Tenhi Clan has numbers about seventeen thousand. They don't have special bloodline ability but they have special techniques much like my clan. Especially their greatest technique, Quasar Form. It works like my clan's technique. They envelop their body with some strange energy and it gave them to capability to defeat hundreds of other clan members. They are also known as the greatest sensors. They can sense even those who Tsukine members possessed and understand that they are being possessed.

They are also known to be quite hostile to Hanakumo Clan. My Kinukage clan was also under their rule. The other two clans who are under them are Kokorohai and Kima clans. I will explain them later so that it won't be too confusing. We were the third strongest coalition among the four noble clans and their coalitions."

It gets a bit confusing. But I'm understanding more about Izumi and the Sanraisu country. Right now they are the strongest point of the supernatural side of the world. I'll have to learn more.

"Harido Clan is the clan with the least numbers. They only have thirteen thousand members. Their numbers might be less than others but they have enough strength to match others. They also have special bloodline power. An eye called Gingan. They say that it's a gey eye with a black pupil. Around the pupil, there are black needle-like markings.

Gingan gives the ability to create and control silver and similar metals to some degree. It also has the ability to turn the skin into silver. With their Gingan, they are focused on assassination and infiltrations. Tsukine Clan is also under their rule along with Ishikawa and Minami clans. They are the weakest among the four coalitions."

'So the Tsukine clan is under these guys. They might be the weakest coalition but they are clearly too dangerous for the ordinary citizens.'

"Hikusari Clan is the one with the most members, they have about twenty thousand members. They have special bloodline power. It's called chains of sunlight. They can store sunlight in their bodies and turn it into chains. They can use those chains as a means to attack or restrain their enemies. They are specialized in attacking and wiping out their enemies. They are extremely hostile to Hanakumo Clan and their coalition.

They have Hoshima, Sumikawa, and Koriwa clans under their rule. They are the strongest coalition among the four coalitions. Both in power and in numbers they have suppressed others. They also have the support of many other smaller clans. Hanakumo clan tried to take back their position but the Hikusari clan and their coalition crushed them with the help of many big and small clans."

'This one must be the most troublesome of all. They have advantages in both numbers and power.' Oscar thought after hearing everything.
