What happened in the 4 years he couldn't contact her?

The sun was high in the sky, as it warmed the sand.

Two people were wrapped together as they laid on the beach. Noah woke up from his sleep. He was in the same position he had slept in, nothing had changed. What he found concerning was that Alice was still asleep.

Holding up Alice with him, the young man sat up. He laid Alice's head on his lap as he stretched his arms and shoulders. It had been long since he had woken up feeling this bad, his whole body burned as it had been completely overworked. However, it was a feeling he was familiar with so he was able to bear through it.

Their clothes had dried and they had warmed up under the sun. Noah brought his backpack to the side and opened it up. He looked at the watch he was wearing and saw that it was 10:32 AM.

His luggage consisted of a water bottle, two bottles of pills, a lighter, towel, pocket knife, first aid kit, and a present he had gotten from one of the locals in country C. Other than that he had the hat and sunglasses and he had taken off after leaving the airport as well.

He had carried an absolute bare minimum since he planned on buying everything as he needed it. Luckily, he had a habit of keeping survival tools.

Noah first pulled out one of the bottles of pills.

The ones he took out were condensed nutrition pills. One pill contained the nutrition needed by an average person for a day. Although it didn't completely replace food, after having eaten them for so long, he had adapted to such a diet.

He took three and popped them in his mouth and swallowed. He then took the other bottle out. It contained medication he had to take.

These pills were recently developed and were something his mother was working on developing for his Insomnia. Since he was young he had been affected by sleeping disorders. It was until a few years ago it had gotten so severe where all methods had become ineffective. So this new type of medication was made for him to help replace sleep. It let him sleep for less than four hours a day yet still be completely energised.

He took one and put it back in his bag.

He took out his water bottle and chugged down half of it, and kept the rest for Alice. He was worried that they may not have enough water, but he needed to hydrate himself after such a gruelling workout.

Noah checked his pockets and noticed that he had lost his phone and wallet. He normally wouldn't have minded it too much. To avoid being tracked by his father he had already trashed his actual phone and bought a replacement at the airport. Everything in his wallet could be re-issued so he hadn't lost anything too valuable. However, in this situation, it was their lifeline.

With his phone, he had to chuck his laptop, tablet, smartwatch, smart glasses and headphones. They were all tapped or tracked so he didn't have those either.

With no way to contact anyone, Noah started to get up. It was a whole process of gently holding Alice's head up and then standing. He packed his bag up again and carried Alice as if she was a koala hanging on to him.

'I need to secure shelter, water and a food source.' Noah thought. He would have to figure out a way to survive until help came. He first had to find a place to have Alice lay down safely from any animals that roamed the island.

He would then have to find freshwater, which was his main concern. It would be hardest to find and was the most important. As for food, he could hunt animals on the island or go fish in the sea, so he didn't see it as an issue. Although the pills provided enough nutrition, they were something that only he could stomach. Alice who wasn't used to eating them would still feel starved after eating them.

Noah trudged through the jungle. Tall green trees and vines wrapped around. The ground however barely held grass as all light was blocked by the trees.

Noah walked a kilometer, where he saw all types of animals, from birds to snakes but nothing too dangerous.

He finally reached a cave made on the side of a cliff. He entered the cave and saw that it wasn't too deep. He looked for traces of animals to see if it was already home to an animal. But he couldn't find anything.

Seeing that it was safe Noah kept Alice down. He laid her against the cave wall and fell to the ground next to her.

He hadn't noticed it before but Alice's skin had turned red. He put his hand on her forehead and felt her skin burning up. Noah started to panic.

He got out the first aid kit and pulled out a fever reducer. He found one that was a syringe and gave it to Alice. After that, he found a cool pack and put that on her forehead.

Her shirt was messy and unbuttoned, he left it on just making it wasn't restricting and was comfortable. He finally took off his jacket and used it to cover her up and warm her.

As he did this, he saw her feet covered in cuts and bruises. He had heard from the lady near the flower shop that she had been walking barefoot. He gently wiped them clean then bandaged them up. Without taking her clothes off he scanned her body for more wounds. After finding a few more he put her down again.

Noah lightly hugged Alice as if to recharge himself then stood up.

He pulled out the lighter. It was an antique silver metallic lighter that he had inherited from his grandfather. He was told to always keep it with him as it brought good luck. Although he didn't believe in superstitions, he still brought them along with him.

Lo and behold, he found a use for it. Noah went out of the cave and set up a fire with some wooden sticks and branches. He set it so that it would form a wall to stop animals from entering the cave when he left.

Naturally, it was controlled so the cave wouldn't be blocked or smoke up.

Noah left to find freshwater.

With Alice's situation still uncertain, even though he couldn't do much, he didn't want to leave her unattended for too long. With limited time, he sprinted through the jungle. He found a tall tree, and climbed up, with his black clothes it was hard to differentiate him from a black panther. At the top, he looked around and had a good visual of the island.

He first noticed that it was quite big and he couldn't see the end of it from where he was. Other than that he saw that the jungle stretched on till the horizon, probably covering the whole island. As for water, he spotted a stream a few kilometers away. He marked the location mentally and climbed down.

He then ran back to the cave, his movements were animal-like as he sped through the forest. The smoke from the fire also worked as a marker and allowed him to easily tell where it was. By the time he came back most of the wood had burned up and all that was left was embers.

Noah grabbed the bag and Alice again. And started huddling over to the stream. The journey was far and Noah moved carefully as he carried Alice on his back. He then trekked through the jungle and soil to the stream.

...

The journey was much longer than Noah had anticipated, he used his knowledge to walk around anything that could be harmful. Because of this, he had to take many detours. He also had stop and rest multiple times which delayed it further.

Alice's fever had gotten worst as he carried her along. He knew it wasn't a great idea to take her with him, but he needed to bring her to a place that would have a supply of water and food. So he wouldn't have to leave her side.

At the stream, Noah followed along its side looking for the best place to settle. He kept going till he found a waterfall. It was loud there, but it had a nice stony area to stay in. Noah found a dry smooth stone area to set up camp. There were even a few large boulders to give them cover.

He laid Alice down against a rock. With the sun out beaming, temperatures were rising. The weather already had gotten warmer. He got some wood from nearby and set up a fire. He needed it to boil the water.

After the fire was set, he took out a metallic box with a ribbon wrapped around it. It was a parting gift he had gotten when he left country C from the local residents.

He opened it up and took out all the spices that were inside. They weren't placed directly inside so it was easily done. Finally, he set up a stand over the fire, he then let the water boil on the makeshift stand.

After that he sat next to Alice, and used the towel to constantly cool her, he also loosened her clothes. In hopes, she would feel more comfortable.

Alice's fever started to subside. Noah decided to take a quick wash in the water. Since he had got there he was still covered in salt water, sweat, sand and dirt. He took off his watch first and set it to the side. then followed with his shirt, pants, socks and shoes.

He now only had two lockets hug around his neck, and his underwear on. His body was chiselled well, like an international level athlete. On his chest, near the top on the left, under the shoulder, he had a tattoo of a snowflake. It was a whitish-blue colour that blended in with his skin.

Noah made his way into the pool of water until he was able to completely submerge himself. He was underwater in the pool that the waterfall fell into. He saw a few fish swimming and caught one with his and hands and pulled it out. He made his way to shore, dripping with water.

'So much better!'

He grabbed some leaves and used them to wrap the fish. He then set the fish to be cooked by the fire.

As it wasn't too far, Noah found a tree that was bearing fruit and picked a few.

Sitting back next to Alice, he looked at her worriedly. She had been unconscious for more than a day now. She hadn't anything or drank any water. He took out the fruit and ate a few bites then finally set it down, he couldn't eat while she was in such a bad condition.

The sunset and Noah spent his time thinking and watching the fire burn.

Alice's fever had completely subsided by then and she was in much better condition.

The two sat with their backs against a rock, with Alice leaning her head on Noah's shoulder with his jacket covering her again and Noah wrapping his arm around her.

Very lightly he felt Alice move, she was finally waking up.

Her eyes fluttered open as she looked at Noah. In a daze not understanding what was happening she looked around and finally back at Noah.

He then grabbed the bottle of water and brought it to her mouth.

"You've been unconscious for a day have some water and eat first."

Alice didn't reply but drank the water slowly, finally Noah fed her the fish he had cooked and the fruit he had cut.

Alice slowly chewed, Noah just watched her eat in silence, the fire crackled and the waterfall splashed in the background.
