Despair

"As all of you know, the Tower is going to descend and attach our planet to itself very soon. And once that happens, no one can predict how our world is going to change. Therefore, once the tower descends, I suggest all of you to stay inside your homes and not come out unless absolutely necessary."

"Based on what the angel has told us, once the Tower descends, all wild animals on our planet will evolve. And once that happens, we'll no longer remain the apex predators of our planet."

"So, even though the angel has told us that countless treasures would appear once the Tower descends, it would be best if all of you stayed at home and waited until the chaos dies down."

"Now moving on to the main topic, I'll once again explain all the information about the Tower that we have obtained from the angel."

"Jude, go and bring the model of the tower from the resource room."

"Shawn, help Jude."

As the female teacher finished speaking, everyone inside the class looked at the boy called Shawn with eyes full of pity. At the same time though, there were countless mocking looks as well since many of them took fun in his misery.

After all, Shawn had been blessed with amazing good looks and exceptional intelligence as well due to which he always ranked first in the class, therefore, there was no shortage in the number of students who were envious of him.

However, all of them stopped feeling envious of him once the school bully Jude selected Shawn as his target.

In fact, even the female teacher who was sending Shawn and Jude together knew that one of them was a bully and the other one was his victim.

But, she still sent them together since she was trying to get close to Jude, whose father was the town's mayor. And if doing so meant that Shawn would end up being bullied, then so be it. She didn't care much about the orphan with no backing.

Once the Tower descended, someone like Jude whose father was the mayor of a town would have a lot more influence than he did right now. Therefore, instead of helping Shawn, which wouldn't benefit her in any way, she would rather try and get close to Jude to increase the chance of her living a good life post the descent of the Tower.

"Come Shaws, let's go."

Standing up from his chair, Jude smiled like a demon as he had already come up with a new way to bully Shawn.

Looking at Jude, and everyone inside the room who were looking at him mockingly, all that Shawn could do was secretly clench his fists. Having learned that there was no such thing as justice in the cruel world, Shawn knew that there was no way he was going to get out of being bullied once again.

But it did not matter. The same as the rest of the residents of his planet, Shawn was also waiting for the Tower to descend.

Once it did, he was going to dedicate himself to taking revenge on Jude who bullied him, and everyone else who laughed at him and kicked him while he was down.

Unclenching his hands as he stood up, Shawn followed Jude outside the room with an expressionless face. Even though he was going to be bullied, he wasn't going to let Jude have the satisfaction of looking at his pain.

"Don't look so glum buddy. I came up with a new way to bully you just now. Make sure to give me a proper review about how my new method feels once you experience it."

Laughing cruelly, Jude opened the door to the resource room and pushed Shawn inside it. Closing the door behind him, Jude cracked his knuckles with an eager look on his face as he got ready to bully Shawn.

But before he could do so, he felt the ground start shaking as a loud sound of something crashing entered his ears.

Boom!!!!!

As the trembling of the floor stopped, everyone on the planet saw a translucent screen appear in front of their eyes.

[The Tower has descended!]

[Residents of the Planet Logomia will now undergo a qualification test!]

Following the first two lines, Shawn saw the details of his qualification test appear.

According to the angel, each human on the planet was going to have to go through a qualification test. And the qualification test was going to vary for each of them depending on where they were when the test began.

[Qualification Test (1) - Survive the zombie onslaught]

[Objective - You'll be attacked by zombies for the next 30 minutes. Try and survive the onslaught for 30 minutes.]

[Rewards - Will depend on how the test is completed]

[Failure - Death]

Once Shawn finished reading the details of his qualification test, he saw something else appear in his vision.

[A mission has been triggered!]

[Mission - Who's the hunter? And who's the prey?]

[Objective - You are locked inside a room with your hunter. Escape from your hunter by staying alive for the next 30 minutes and you'll be rewarded for surviving as the prey. Or, kill your hunter within the next 30 minutes, and you'll be rewarded for hunting your hunter.]

[Rewards - Will depend on how the mission is completed]

[Failure - Death]

According to what the angel had said, the greater the penalty for failure was, the higher the reward would be for completing the test.

And since the penalty for failure was death for both the qualification test and the mission, Shawn was sure that the rewards he'd obtain for completing them would be quite high.

However if he didn't receive any rewards for completing the mission, he was going to complete it anyway.

It was finally time to pay Jude back for everything he did to him.

But given how the details of the mission were phrased, Shawn was sure that Jude had received a mission as well. But that did not matter.

Placing his hand inside his pocket, Shawn grabbed the switchblade inside it.

Once the angel had appeared and told the world about the Tower descending and the qualification test, Shawn made it a point to carry a weapon with him at all times. And that weapon was the switchblade inside his pocket.

And now was the time for him to put it to use.

As he thought about this, Shawn almost pulled the switchblade out of his pocket when new information popped up in front of his eyes which forced him to halt his actions.

[Missions - Despair]

[Objective - The best way to take revenge on someone isn't by killing them. It is by making them regret what they did to you and despair at the possibility of never being able to escape their fate.]
