The exam ends

White light fell on Karl's face, as he opened his dizzy eyes the light lessened; it took Karl's eyes a while to adjust the room's light.

'I am passing out more and more due to mana depletion, Is it 4th time or 5th time now?"Karl thought "and after getting that skill to recover mana." Karl remembered that he tried to use the skill at the last movement but it didn't work.

'Why the hell did it not work?' Karl thought 'does it have a limited uses?'

Karl opened his skill tab to confirm his theory 'now it has a limitation'

[Breathing technique: Dragon's Breath]

[A Breathing technique to absorb mana surrounding the user with great proficiency but it can only be used 20 times; a single use is of one breath. After taking 20 breaths, the technique can be reused after naturally recovering both body and mana]

'Just as I thought, the system is broken' Karl thought. 'The system didn't expect me to create a technique and didn't knew how to react thus gave me a reward but the information about the breathing technique took a little time to be displayed.' Karl thought 'No, no, no, the system is not broken, if it was broken then the second time when I learned the skill Austin was using same thing should have occurred but it displayed full information on that. Maybe the system is leveling up as I do?' Karl thought.

A knock came on the door of the room, and the door opened without the one knocking asking the question to come in.

A beautiful woman entered the room; she had light brown hair with red, green, blue and yellow color of shade running down her hair at back of her neck, after entering the room and seeing Karl she said "hi, I am Amanda, Department Head of the Magic Academy" Karl blushed appreciating the beauty of the women dressed in a white dress with multiple colored strap running down the dress in a curve.

"Hello" Karl blurted out as he realized he hadn't spoken for a while.

" I am here to inform you of the basics of the academy and what will happen next because you missed the orientation, oh, I forgot, Congratulation" Amanda said " you have passed the exam."

"Thank you" Karl said "by the way how long was I passed out and how did I pass?"

"Geez, I thought you will be more exited as you are now part of the very small percentage of people who can train and grow as a mana user, and to answer your question; you have been unconscious for 2 days now, and your teammates carried you to the finish line after you passed out thus resulting in you being passing the exam."

"I had one more question, why did the exam was held the way it did? I have researched about it and it always been about physical tests, mana tests and theoretical tests."

"Good question, I was going to explain that part but since you asked" Amanda said, her voice grew serious as she continued "It is actually because of the growing number of beast and declining number of mana users, it is part of the program in which only the selected few can attend the Academy which is being sponsored by the alliance (government of the human race), to produce the best fighters, thus the resources can only be spend on the selected few.

"The previous exam didn't take into account the people who didn't had resources to improve, neither knowledge for passing the exam but the new exam only focus is on talent, quick thinking and team work of the candidate." Amanda said." It doesn't mean that fitness, mana and theoretical test will not be held but rather it will be delayed."

"What do you mean, ma'am?" Karl added ma'am as he thought that department head has to be a great position in the academy and for someone so young. 'Maybe not, it could be a skill. Higher level mana users can extend their life then looking young should not be that hard.' Karl thought.

"All new students will be informed after reaching the academy, but now the reason I am here" Amanda said as she picked up a suitcase, opened it and sat on a chair near Karl's bed.

"As you can see this is a special uniform for the students, it can enhance the physique of the student after wearing it; now press your hand here." Amanda said.

Karl looked at the opened suitcase, on the left side a black and white uniform which looked like a jumpsuit was sealed in a transparent seal, and on the right side a scanner was placed, as soon as Karl's hand was scanned the seal on the uniform broke.

"This is your uniform, without it you will not be able to enter the academy so, take good care of it." Amanda said as she closed the suitcase and put it down. "Ok, we check the information about every student's past, and help them in any way we can.

"Your apartment had been sealed, thus no one can buy or rent and all the things will be kept secure. You had been using the credits your parents had left you, and it is almost all spend, now you have two options; you could return to your normal life in which we will support you for a few years or you could join the academy."Amanda said.

"You mean I can deny, why would I be given a chose? Wouldn't it be easier to just force those who can't protect themselves." Karl said, he had seen a lot of times the discrimination done by those in power to those who lacked it, he didn't understand why he was given a chose, it seemed like a joke to him.

"As I said, we don't what to use and waste our resources on the unveiling, it is our objective to produce the best fighters we can or else the human race may not survive." Amanda said.

Karl held a neutral face and said "I will join the academy and there is no need to keep my apartment secured, it doesn't have anything that is worth something."

The department head looked at Karl for a minute as if expecting a reaction from him about the state of humankind but Karl didn't say anything further. A click sound came out the watch the department head had on her arm, she looked at it.

"Oh, I have to go and good luck at the academy." Amanda said as she stood up and walked out of the room.

Karl was once again alone in the room as he thought about the state of humankind.

A huge black space ship which looked like a fighter jet stopped near an even gigantic size space station, a voice came to the control room "Identify the highest ranking person on the ship and to pass the teleportation gate verify the passing code."

"This is Amanda wheeler, department head of the academy and the current highest ranked individual on this ship, the code is Z 2 R T 5 F 6 8." Amanda said over a mana microphone as sound couldn't travel through space but mana can.

"Code has been verified, teleportation gate can be used." A voice came over the control room.

A giant circular ring in space, which had nothing in it started to be filled will a black-violet color, after the teleporter was ready the ship passed through it, it sucked the ship in like a tornado would, after the ship entered the teleporter the giant ring turned normal as the mana supply had been cut.
