Chapter 6: Thana (2)

<Thana's POV>

As we walked within the corridors, I took a glance towards the two adults in front of me. Though they may seem defenseless, they both possess outstanding mana. Especially the man's, having an aura comparable to a {Dragnoid}, a hybrid of human and dragon, taking on only half of a dragon's strength and properties but stronger than humans nonetheless. I wonder, those the girl earlier know that her parents are powerful people? Maybe not, seeing as she hasn't used any of her supposed abilities despite the age of 10. Now that I think about it, I haven't asked her name yet. It's probably 'Hestia', since her parents did call her Hestia earlier.

(Children normally start learning magic at age 11 but children who have much more potent magic learn at 6 years of age)

We then climbed downstairs towards what I concluded as their living room. I took my seat, opposite to the two adults. The tension between us was rather heavy once we faced each other.

"So...I presume your name is Thana, right?" the man started to interrogate me. He seems to be quiet the aggressive type. It truly suits his appearance; having a bulky build, orange hair and golden eyes, it really gives off the impression that he's on flames.

"Yes." I replied in my usual blunt tone.

"May I ask why you were in our daughter's room?" the woman was the one who asked this time. Compared to her husband, she gives off the impression of a serene woman. With her calm expression, hazel-brown hair and jade-green eyes you'd think that she's a frail woman who can't defend herself. But I know better, for I can see her aura. No matter how faint it is, she is an {Elf} with a high affinity of {Nature Magic}. Odd...why does that sound familiar?

"I don't remember why or how I was in your daughter's room. Or anything prior to that. All I know is that I am an Ice Mage--" I then began.

"Ice Mage? I thought they were extinct?" the man abruptly blurted out.

That made me stood up. "What?... What do you mean extinct? I don't remember such thing! From what I can remember my family was--" then it suddenly hit me. I am already 11 years old now, meaning that 6 years has already passed since the last time I saw my family. How come?-- How come I don't have any recollection of what happened during those 6 years? Where was I? What have I been doing? Is the Ice Mage race really extinct?-- Then that means I'm the only one left?

"N-no...that can't...be..." I then muttered, tears flowing out of my eyes.

I then felt two arms pulling me in a warm hug. "Shh, I know it isn't my place to say this and we've only just met, but you can lean on me, cry on me, and I'll try my best to console you." the woman said this as she patted my head lightly. So...warm...it's been a long time since I felt like this.

--Meanwhile--

<Hestia's POV>

Um...why is she staring at me so intently?

After Thana and our parents left the room, Chiyo has been staring at me as if she was looking at something peculiar.

"Chiyo? Why are you looking at me like that? Is there something wrong?" I asked nervously.

"Nothing. Just wondering why a girl was in your room, that's all." Chiyo answered innocently.

"Oh--well the reason why she was in my room was because she needed help so I let her in." I lied, after all I wouldn't want to tell her that the reason Thana was here in the first place was to kidnap her. Technically speaking, that isn't a literal lie, just half the truth. I mean, I did let her stay because she did needed help.

"Really? You're really the nicest person, sister!" Chiyo beamed.

"Ahaha...yes..." I wouldn't say that, I'm not really the nicest person, if I do say so myself. "Say, why don't we get ready for the day, hm? There's some drool on your mouth you know." I chuckled as I wiped Chiyo's mouth.

"Eh? Then let's go!" Chiyo then shouted, pulling me along as we went towards the bathroom.

--Back in the living room--

Well this is awkward...

After I've cried my eyes out earlier, the woman insisted that I should drink something to calm me down. And so she went to the kitchen to get me a cup of tea, leaving me here with this grumpy man. No, I should rephrase that. I meant grumpy creep.

"When will you stop staring daggers at me? It's freaking me out right now, you creep." I stated plainly, no point saying in a round-about way.

He looked affronted and shouted, "What creep!? You have quite the tongue there. Are you really the girl who bawled right on my wife's breasts?!"

I narrowed my eyes at him and said, "One, you ARE the creep. Two, what if I do have a sharp-tongue? And three, yes I am the girl who bawled earlier."

But before he could speak again, the woman earlier came bringing along a a cup of tea and a tray of sandwiches. Hm...She must have made these as breakfast for them, considering that it's still early in the morning.

After handing me my tea, she sat down beside her husband, putting the tray on the table between us.

"Here, have some." the woman said as she pushed the tray towards me.

I nodded and took a piece. Then a sudden thought came in mind. I don't know their names.

"Ahem, I know it's a bit too late but what are you're names?" I asked awkwardly, fidgeting a bit as I did so. Geez, the man earlier is really giving me the 'Oh now you're acting shy' look, like will just give me a break!?

"Ah, it seems we haven't introduced ourselves have we? Well my name is Charlotte Griffin and this fierce guard-dog is my husband, Fabian Griffin." Charlotte said in sarcastic tone. I couldn't help but laugh at the 'guard-dog' part. However Hunter seems to be used to this, seeing that he just gave an exasperated look. So this happens everyday, huh?

"Anyway, about the Ice Mages extinction, what happened?" I then went straight to the point. I didn't want to wait any longer than I could.
