Chapter 25: Mist

I lay the blanket out, the warm breeze catching it before it settles on the ground, straight against the blades of grass. A thicket of trees surrounds us, surrounds the hideout.

We still haven’t figured out what we’re going to do with them, to give us more room in the hideout to put up big tents or some place for storage of whatever. Or we can just use the spare room in the cottage, but the emptiness of it all might be too unsettling.

Iris places a rock at each corner of the blanket and sits down, bringing the basket with her, which holds water and sandwiches that were made by her mom.

She seems very open to all of this, Iris’ mom, I mean. To Iris having Mystic friends, stopping the Council. Maybe after everything the Council has done to her, taken her magic, everything that makes her a Mystic, she would want to do what she can to help Iris, support her.
