To kiss frogs

Alice was convinced that she was going to die soon. She was called to Miss Gwen's office, and she knew why. She had failed her biology test, again.

There was always the one thing that no matter how much you tried, you just could never be good at it. For her, Biology was that thing. She was pretty much good at everything else but when it came to that dreadful subject, she was horrible.

Maybe understanding life, just wasn't her thing.

This was her second time this term failing that subject and she couldn't afford to fail it anymore if she wanted to enter the best college. Plus the thought of failing was terrifying.

Biting into her apple, she turned her attention back to her friends just in time to hear her name being called.

"...Ali, you're spacing out again! "

Smiling sheepishly, she blew a kiss to the red head who called her name.

Erica's face turned it disgust at the kiss and stuck out her tongue.

Alice chuckled as she looked at her friend's. She knew many people she was afterall, quite popular. She however, had three female friends.

There was Veronica, the damsel in distress. Then Erica, the definition of natural beauty and Laura the crazy dark haired who was more often than not in situations which had gotten her almost arrested.

"...I've been talking for the past five minutes and I'm pretty sure you didn't hear a single word I said"

Smiling at Erica apologetically, Alice gestured for her to proceed.

Erica placed a paper that she had been holding few minutes before on the table and the girls scooted closer to get a better view of the content.

Laura took the paper from the table and skimmed through it. After what seemed like hours, she dropped the paper on the table and burst into fits of laughter.

Looking at Laura in confusion, Alice questioned her "Well, why are you laughing and what does the paper say?"

Laura merely gestured to the paper as she continued laughing. In the process, clutching her stomach in pain.

Sighing loudly, Veronica picked up the paper and read the content. After a few minutes, she raised her head and looked at her friends whose expression remained curious.

"Well what is in the paper?"

"Well" dropping the paper on the table as she continued "It's about an audition."

"You've got to be kidding me."

"Guys come on it'll be awesome, it can't be so hard" Erica pleaded as she looked at her friends in desperation.

Laura shook her head sadly as she looked at Maura"It's not like we don't want to do it but..."

"Speak for yourself" said Alice.

Ignoring her, Laura continued "it's just that we don't have any experience."

"Or talent" Alice chipped in.

"And there's a hundred percent chance we would end up embarrassing ourselves." Veronica added.

"I just wanted us to have memories" Maura whispered with less enthusiasm.

Releasing a breath, Alice looked at her friend and knew what she had to do.

"Guys, as much as I'd hate to admit, Erica is right." Rolling her eyes at the shocked expression on their face she continued "In a month's time, we'd be going for our summer break and we won't be seeing each other for a while. Laura will be traveling to France, Erica, to London. We won't be able to hang out and even if we don't end up traveling, we'd be busy with our family"

Pausing briefly she continued "We have to make use of the short time we have. So I agree, what could possibly go wrong?"

"Well we could end up looking like total idiots or literally break a leg or worse not even get into the play. But that doesn't really matter cause we always looking like idiots"

"Laura!"

"Wait I'm not done yet" rolling her eyes Laura continued "But it would be fun cause we would be together so, I agree"

Smiling happily, Erica turned her attention to Veronica who still hadn't said anything.

Ignoring the looks thrown her way, Veronica replied as she slowly ate her salad.

"As long as they're cute boys, count me in"

Erica grinned as she nodded.

"Deal."

"Sorry to break this cute moment but when is the audition?" Alice said after some time.

"Well, next weekend?"

"Oh hell no!"

"That's ridiculous, how are we supposed to be ready before then?"

"Calm down guys let's talk gently like..."

"I can't believe I just agree to this, heavens..."

Alice, watched as her friends argued amongst themselves and she silently began to wonder if she had bad luck?

What in the heavens had she gotten herself into?

Finally summoning the courage to knock on the door, Alice quietly prayed no one would be inside but her payer wasn't answered.

"Come in" said the voice from inside the room.

Alice opened the door and stepped into the almost empty classroom. Her gaze wandered around the classroom, as it settled briefly on the chats on the wall and the laboratory equpiments. After some minutes, she turned her attention back to the new female teacher who had managed to get most of the male teachers attention in just few weeks. Miss Gwen.

Miss Gwen dropped her pen and looked up at Alice "You finally decided to come, Alice" she said while folding her hands.

"I'm sorry I couldn't come earlier, I was quite busy"

"Really?" Said Miss Gwen as she tilted her head while looking at Alice with curiosity.

Alice pressed her sweaty palms together as she tried to avoid the gaze of the teacher, hoping for the discussion that had not yet begun to, come to an end.

"It seems you already know why you're here or am I wrong?"

"No ma'am" Alice muttered.

What she would give to end this quickly and get out of here.

"Then I better get straight to the point" Miss Gwen said while handing Alice her test score.

Alice took the paper and read it's content. This wasn't good, She had gotten a D. She dropped the paper back on the table as she tried to remain calm, her education was on the line and at this rate she wouldn't be getting a scholarship.

Miss Gwen started at her face and seemed quite satisfied at her reaction.

"You're a bright student Alice, the best in your grade so far but you have a slight problem..."

Slight? More like a big problem. A big pain in the ass.

"... Your score in your biology isn't encouraging. I know you're changing the subject in your next session but that does not mean you should neglect it now. It's surely going to affect you if you don't step up your game during the exams."

"Only a miracle or a fairy godmother can help me" Alice whispered.

Miss Gwen raised her perfectly done eyebrows as she looked at Alice in amusement before speaking.

"Well a miracle, maybe but a fairy godmother? That's unlikely. But I was going to suggest something else "

God no, let it not be what she was thinking.

"... A tutor and I have just the right person for you"

Alice started panickly at her teacher, this couldn't be happening to her. She was always the tutor not the tutored. What had she done wrong to deserve this?

"But isn't there another way?" She said with a hopeful expression.

Smiling sadly, Miss Gwen shook her head. "You could read on your own but you've been doing that for a while. I think it's time for a new approach"

Sighing sadly, she nodded her head in agreement. It was time to swallow her pride if she wanted to ace her exam.

"Okay."

"Wise choice" Miss Gwen said.

Opening a book, Miss Gwen brought out a piece of paper and gave it to Alice "And here is the name of your tutor"

Taking the paper in her hand, Alice kissed her pride goodbye as she opened the paper. This couldn't be so bad, besides it was for her own good.

She looked at the name written on it and her eyes nearly popped out of the sockets when she saw the name.

No, this couldn't be possible. She tried to tell herself as she reread the name to be sure of she wasn't seeing things. And she wasn't.

"Hell no! "

Right there and then she kicked the offer goodbye, never to return. She'd rather kiss a frog than agree to that.

Only if she knew that she'd be kissing lots of frogs in the future.
