The devil - chapter 2

"and so shall you get",the voice replied.

And as soon as the voice ended, a large tide suddenly formed out of nowhere a few hundred meters away from Josh. But Josh didn't see it as he had his eyes closed focused, waiting for the voice to speak once more.

Josh waited for a few moments, hearing no response, he opened his eyes but as soon as his eyes opened, he saw the ocean wave which was atleast 3 times his height just a few meters away from him now. His pupils enlarged and his jaw dropped from the sight as he hastily tried to block the wave by squatting down and placing his arms in front of his head.

Maybe due to the shock or maybe due to being only focused in the wave infront,  Josh didn't notice that the water which previously covered most of his body was now barely at his knee level and that his body was giving a light glow of red color with a tint of dark to it.

But none of it mattered for now as the ocean wave came and swept him to shore unconcious.

.........

Next day,

Josh groggily wakes up to the light of the sun and the sound of the ocean as his alarm clocks. Having slight dizziness with a head splitting headache from heavy drinking last night. He surveys the area around him and finds himself in the middle section of the beach, a slight distance from the shore.

Although it wasn't that early in the morning, there were already a good number of people around the beach. Youngsters were playing volleyballs, couples were walking hand in hand, there were some food stalls a bit further outside the beach and a nice breeze was blowing from the sea.

After a quick survey using his eyes, Josh lies down on the sand once more hoping that his headache would disappear.

While lying down, Josh remembered what happened last night. The feelings of anger, despair, and hopelessness, the strange but alluring voice, and lastly the wave that swept him away.

Josh thought, "What a strange dream it was, so surreal yet vivid, and that wave, how could that be real!?"

"All the bad things that are happening to me must've caused  that surreal dream and the alcohol must've messed with my mind"

"For all that talk about alcohol making one forget their sadness, just a myth to sell alcohol to sad people "

"though I had really hoped that it wasn't a myth " Josh sighs and with that he returns back to reality.

Having lost all that he loved and held dear, Josh didn't know what to do now. Having spent the little bit of  money he had on alcohol yesterday, he was truly penniless now.

Still despite all that, his stomach still rumbled out of hunger. So he slowly got up as his headache had now subsidied and made his way out of the beach.

Maybe because Josh now seemed like a begger or maybe due to the smell of alcohol lingering in his body, others seem to ignore or not notice him.

And as he made his way out of the beach in a straight line, all the people and obstacles that were in his way seemed to unconsciously make way for him. Some moved to the sides to catch the ball, some moved away to a nicer location and some stumbled while standing even the tents and umbrellas moved away seemingly swept by the ocean breeze.

But Josh didn't seem to notice it much, not only him, no-one noticed as it all seemed natural.
