Escape Plan

Virion awoke with a splitting headache, however after quickly realizing he was someone unfamiliar he pushed the pain aside and struggled to stand up.

"Where am I?"

He looked around and noticed he was in some kind of hotel style lobby, most of it destroyed.

"I remember running... running from that... that thing, and then I passed out, what happened next?" He thought to himself.

"About time you woke up don't you think?" A male voice interrupted his thoughts and startled him.

"Who?!" Virion quickly looked towards the direction of the voice with his guard up and saw what looked like a forty or so year old man holding a crossbow sitting behind the main reception desk.

"Don't be so hostile, I was the one who dragged you here after you passed out near that building" The old man said.

"Why did you save me?"

"Why shouldn't I save you? Have you seen what's going on outside? To be frank we need everybody we can get to survive this, and even then I doubt we'll survive."

"Why the crossbow then? Is it effective against those things?"

"Haha, not at all! It just makes me feel safer."

"Then what do you propose we do?"

"We gather more people and try to make it out of the city of course."

"And what? Use them as shields while you escape?" Virion scoffs at the man and lets down his guard.

"Quite honestly, yes, I'm more worried about my survival than I am theirs."

"Then you'd leave me behind as well?"

"With zero hesitation"

"Fine, I'll agree to your plan, but only because I don't have a choice. It's either try and help you, or die" Virion suddenly gets hit by the pain of his headache as he sits down.

The old man fumbles around in a bag behind the desk and throws Virion a bottle of pill.

"These are?"

"Pain killers, take them"

"Shit." Virion decides it isn't the time to question it and swallows a good few of the pills.

"Oslo." After a few minutes of silence the old man suddenly speaks up.

"What?" Virion asks looking confused

"That's my name, Oslo."

"Virion"

"Good, then let's go Virion" Oslo stands up and begins to walk outside.

"Are you crazy?! Why are you going outside, you saw what was out there!"

"How else do you expect to get out of here? Now grow a pair and come on" Oslo continues walking until he's out of sight.

"God damn it." Virion hurries to follow after Oslo and sees him making his way between buildings while keeping an eye out for any more of those creatures.

Oslo signals him to keep quite and follow as he leads him past even more destroyed buildings.

"Roar!"

All of a sudden one of the creatures nearby begins to roar with no sign of stopping. Panicking, Virion looks towards Oslo and see that he's already quickly making his way away from the noise.

"That bastard!" He thinks to himself as he has no choice but to follow after him.

Luckily, the roaring seemed to get more distant, which meant they hadn't been spotted.

Looking up Virion saw Oslo was motioning for him to stop. He then began pointing at an alleyway ahead of them as Virion saw what looked to be tinier versions of the creatures he saw earlier. Instead of being around double the height of a human these things were only waist high. Five of the creatures came out from the alleyway and began sniffing the air.

Virion quickly held his breath as he watched the creatures sniff the air while walking towards him. However, just before the creatures reached him another roar sounded in the distant and all of the creatures hurried towards it. Virion began coughing soon after they left because he had run out of oxygen and was struggling to breath.

"Thank god... they left..." He said amidst gasps of breath.

"Hurry up kid!" Oslo shouted to him as quietly as he could.

Virion quickly got himself together and ran after Oslo again.

"How is this guy so fast?!" He thought to himself as he was struggling to keep up.

After a few more minutes of running and hiding, they soon found a building with a large group of people huddled inside hiding.

"Thank god we found someone! We've been running from those things nonstop!" Oslo quickly said in a distressed manner to a small group of people that seemed to be running the others.

"What happened to him acting so arrogant?" Virion thought to himself, wondering why Oslo was acting like this.

"Welcome in, please, feel free to hide out here with us. Just make sure to stay quiet." One of the guys in the group smiled at him and welcomed him in just like that.

"Thank you, oh thank you. Me and my friend here, Virion, will make sure to stay quiet." He promised the guy who spoke out first.

"That's all I can ask...Mr?"

"Oslo, the name is Oslo"

"Lewis, good to meet you Oslo, and you as well Virion." Lewis nodded at virion

"Same here..." Virion said back

"Let's go take a seat then Virion, come on." Oslo grabbed Virion by the arm and led them further into the building to find a spot to rest. While going deeper into the building Virion managed to overhear some of the other people talking about them.

"Why do they keep letting more people in?"

"If they keep this up we'll all get found!"

"What can we do though? They're the leaders"

"Leaders? What makes them the leaders?" Virion thought to himself while continuing to follow Oslo.

"Alright, we'll rest here" Oslo said after finding a spot that wasn't near anybody else

"What was up with that act earlier? Why did you do that?" He questioned him while trying to make his spot as comfy as it could be.

"You wouldn't get it kid, you'll understand in the future."

"Fine, whatever."

Virion began to drift off as his body still hadn't recovered from all of the running he had done, he was a normal citizen before this after all.

For now I'll be updating this book slowly as I put more of it together and figure out what I want to do with the beginning. I hope you enjoy the book and what it has to offer you.

If you have any feedback please leave a comment as this is my first novel I've written so I'd love to learn how to make it better.
