In the quiet of the early morning, just as I was slipping into the deepest part of sleep, something soft and unexpectedly heavy landed directly on my chest.
I jolted awake, my heart racing, thinking for a split second that maybe the ceiling had come down or that Seraphine had rolled over with a little too much enthusiasm.
But no. As I opened my eyes, a pair of wide, curious, and unmistakably familiar golden eyes blinked down at me, glowing in the dim light of the room.
"Oh no," I whispered, though it was half a groan.
The little dragon our little dragon had returned.
Seraphine stirred beside me, and before I could warn her, the creature gave a gleeful chirp, launching itself off my chest and landing squarely on Seraphine's stomach.
She awoke with a start, eyes wide in confusion as the tiny dragon scrambled over her, its tail flicking back and forth as it inspected the two of us with a mixture of excitement and mischief.
