Chapter 2

CHRISTIAN

I hadn't been back here since my mom had last visited old friends a few years back, I had been young, a little over eighteen at the time, it had been nearly four years since then, four years since I met Amber, my best and only friend at the time. I walk beside my beta who has all but been begging to get out of the alpha Queens mansion and out on the terrace where people were gathered to prepare for the mating season to begin, I have been to this mansion before but never had I been to a mating season ball, I knew what it was for but I didn't believe it was necessary that I join, I didn't believe I had nor deserved a mate of my own, I felt that I'd only cause my mate problems, but mostly I was simply afraid of what would happen if I were to lose my mate, my one and only. I didn't want to think about it, there were more important things to do now, I had to meet with the Queen, Amber, there was a very important topic that we needed to talk about and it couldn't wait another second exception as I found myself standing and knocking at her office door something changed in the air around me, there was a sort of magnetic charge in the air and when I saw her opening the door the charge blew up around me and my hands were on her in seconds her body instantly melted into mine and I stifled the growl of pleasure that threatened to escape my throat before I let her go to soon. I then recognize the smell of a male on her as a roars thunders throughout the entire room as a strong male that looked to be an alpha stormed towards me and growling spat in my face as He spoke and said, " who do you think you are to touch my mate?" Before I realized my hands were balled into fists and I pressed forward into the room spitting my curses at the male in front of me, " Fuck you bastard, Amber is my mate not the mate of some overgrown household mutt like you," I grabbed him and pull him closer as my hands fist his shirt into big balls of cloth, " I'll kill you where you stand if you even so much as think of touching my mate ever again." The male grabbed my wrists in his own and squeezes hard nearly enough to break my bones as I drop him he pulls me in by the wrists and pulls me into ear shot and I expect him to twist me around and throw me across the room but through his angered haze he smoothes his voice out just a little and whispers to me in an angered voice, " look, I don't like you and it's obvious you don't like me but I'm beginning to understand so cool your temper and calm down because our fighting is scaring my mate,"

"My mate," I try to say but the man before me growls and tells me to shut up.

"Look, I don't wanna do anything but rip your head clean off right now but our bickering is scaring Amber and neither of us want to scare her, I'm sure of that," I look unbelieving behind the man talking to me and sure enough Amber is quivering, worry filling her eyes with tears, it slight and barely noticeable but it's there, I take I deep breath and let loose a little bit and whisper to the male, I don't know who you are but we need to talk about this as soon as possible but first I need to speak to Amber, alone," that's when the male straitens his back and puts his shaking hands in his pockets, obviously he's still angry and straining to gain control as he says, " anything you speak with the Alpha about can be said in front of her beta." I look at him with a sideways glance and say, "then bring him here," I here Amber laugh and the males lips curl into a mischievous grin, "what's so funny?" I ask the anger that started to dissipate rising yet again to the surface when the male looks at me with a mocking smile, "Cyrus Graham, Beta of the Crescent moon pack and one of the Queen's advisors."
