Chapter 5: Mobilizing Soldiers

The sight of a gold bracelet and a diamond ring adorned on the woman's hand fueled Ye Fan's determination. Stuck on the sixth floor with no way out, he resolved to confront the two looming zombies.

"After dealing with them, my gold count will surely exceed 100, and I can produce my first combat unit," Ye Fan calculated, eyeing the prospect of raising his own fighting force.

Faced with two zombies, the spear might prove ineffective, prompting Ye Fan to retrieve his revolver with four bullets—a seemingly adequate supply for precise shooting. He strategically moved a table to block the impending zombie assault, then bravely opened the door.

With a swift push, two zombies emerged, their bodies oozing with gore and blood, presenting a terrifying spectacle. Unperturbed, Ye Fan raised his gun, aiming first at the male zombie and firing.

Bang bang~~~!

His intent was a two-shot takedown, yet the flailing arms disrupted his plan. The first shot struck the arm, the second the face, but neither inflicted fatal injuries.

Undeterred, the zombies persisted, pushing the table aside. Ye Fan swiftly fired again, this time with better accuracy, landing a fatal shot to the male zombie's forehead.

"One down," he thought, readjusting his aim towards the female zombie. However, the incessant flailing impeded his precision.

Frustrated, Ye Fan remarked, "What happened? I performed well during military training, but now I am too nervous. There's also a problem with the accuracy of this gun."

With no bullets left, Ye Fan reached for a spear, but the female zombie closed in. Swiftly evading, he led the zombie around the room, relying on his agility to avoid its attacks.

Stab it~~!

The zombie's claws grazed Ye Fan's back, causing a sensation of pain. Surprisingly, the skin was intact, thanks to the protective qualities of his attire.

"Thanks to this dress, ordinary clothes are in danger," Ye Fan noted, continuing to evade the relentless pursuit.

Suddenly, Nana's voice echoed in his mind, "Sir, the twelve o'clock refresh time is up. Clothes are restored! Bullets are restored!"

Elated, Ye Fan discovered a renewed vigor. Raising his pistol, he showcased improved marksmanship, hitting the female zombie squarely in the head.

"It's so dangerous. Fortunately, it was almost eleven o'clock when I came out, just in time for the refresh," Ye Fan acknowledged, catching his breath.

Having defeated the zombies, Ye Fan approached the female zombie, removing a gold bracelet and diamond ring. Nana promptly reported, "Didi! I found a rare metal that can be converted into money. Do you want to convert it?"

"Transform, if I don't say anything about it from now on, everything will be transformed automatically," Ye Fan instructed.

"Understood, the transformation was successful, and I received forty-eight gold!"

Ye Fan checked the virtual page, confirming his money amount had reached 117. The newly acquired coins included thirty-three units of gold, seven units of platinum, and eight units of diamonds.

"Not easy, finally collected 100 gold," Ye Fan mused, prepared to train his first conscript. Nana asked, "Sir, do you want to train?"

"Train, train immediately," Ye Fan affirmed, observing the mobilization icon rotate in a circle on the soldier page.

Once the progress was complete, Nana prompted, "Sir, this is your first time producing a unit. Please choose the soldier race?"

"Oh! Is there another word about race?" Ye Fan inquired.

"Yes, because you are from the Qin and Han dynasties, the soldiers you produce are from the Qin and Han dynasties by default. Do you want to modify it?"

"Without modification, the Qin and Han natives will be fine," Ye Fan decided, not wanting to create a group of foreign soldiers.

Nana explained, "Is this soldier a real person or a robot?"

"They are all real people, and each soldier has a unique identity. However, they have all turned into zombies. Our Red Alert soldiers all appear with their identities when they were alive, and the face has been slightly adjusted, so even if it is seen by a familiar person, it will not be easily recognized."

Reassured, Ye Fan continued his queries, "Where is the wisdom of a soldier? Is it the same as a real person?"

"Ordinary soldiers have low intelligence, but they can carry out simple communications and orders. Only after soldiers rise to stars, their intelligence will gradually increase. Officers can now communicate with your soldiers."

As Nana paused, footsteps emerged from the bedroom. Ye Fan, initially wary of zombies, raised his gun but discovered a man of similar height to him—a soldier.

Around twenty years old, donned in military attire with a cold expression, the soldier introduced himself, "Private Wang Hu, I've seen the commander!"

Stunned, Ye Fan instinctively saluted and inquired, "Your name is Wang Hu?"

"Wang Hu! He is from County B, City H, with the rank of Private!"

"Private? Not a mobilization soldier?" Ye Fan sought clarification.

"Sir, we have made slight adjustments. Because the lowest rank in our country's military service is private, all mobilization soldiers produced are called privates."

Content with the explanation, Ye Fan assessed the capabilities of his new soldier, Wang Hu. The soldier, equipped with a Type 56 submachine gun, presented his firearm's specifications.

"My gun uses 7.62X39MM bullets, has a magazine capacity of 30 rounds, is effective within a kilometer, and the magazine refreshes every 24 hours. The gun itself will not have any mechanical failure!"

Despite the seemingly limited magazine capacity, Wang Hu assured, "Report, the number of star-raising bullets will increase!"

Ye Fan inquired about the possibility of someone else using Wang Hu's gun, to which Nana clarified, "Each Red Alert soldier's weapon is specialized and can be used by others. It is a normal firearm that needs to be loaded and will wear out."

Concerned about marksmanship, Ye Fan learned, "Before the star rises, my marksmanship is average, but as the star rises, my marksmanship will get better and better. After reaching three stars, I will be at the level of the national shooting team."

Satisfied with the responses, Ye Fan exclaimed, "Very good, Private Wang Hu, you will follow me from now on and be responsible for protecting my safety."

Wang Hu saluted crisply, declaring, "Understood! Protecting the safety of the commander is the highest mission of every Red Police soldier. Your will is the entire meaning of our existence!"

Ye Fan, observing the infinitely loyal soldier, felt a sense of security in the uncertain times ahead.
