Why does no one ever see her pain? **** Calla Anderson, an introvert by nature, has a twin sister completely opposite from her withdrawn self. It was natural for many to prefer the bright child to a dull one, and Calla Anderson had no problem with that. The relationship between Calla and her twin sister remained sweet and firm even though she wasn’t favored like her. But…. that was until he entered the picture. The moment Calla laid her eyes on him, she knowingly gave her heart to him. Unfortunately for her, he was the same as others, falling her twin sister’s beauty and charms. As if keeping her feelings for him locked and hidden, while watching the relationship between her twin sister and him blossom into something more, wasn’t enough, an ill-fated incident fell upon her and her twin sister, and Calla was the only one who survived out of two of them. That moment when many realized that fact, her life turned out for the worse. Her parents blamed her. Her sister’s admirers admonished her. Her sister’s friends loathed her. Her acquaintances left her alone. And him….he was the worst as she had to enter a marriage with him to save an agreement between their families. That’s right. She married her sister’s fiancée and it was from there that Calla wished she was never born into this world. ***** DO NOT USE COVER WITHOUT PERMISSION! Commissioned by r.voh.k on IG
''Here they are.''
Standing on a spot, Calla looked around her surroundings. Apart from the lone sturdy tree in the midst of the green grass, there was nothing else. If she was correct, this should be the backyard of the commercial department.
''Hi guys. How are you doing? Was the food enough? Should I get more?'' Under the canopy of the sturdy tree, Vincent was on his knees, grinning down at the puppies in a brown box. The mother of the puppies by the side relaxed on the grass, sticking out her tongue and quietly watching the warm scene.
''That tickles. ~Stop.'' Vincent laughed as the some of the puppies playfully licked his fingers with their paws on the edge of the brown box. Their short tails dangled from side to side, clearly showing how much happiness they felt from him.
''I brought a new friend. She's the one who gave your mum the food. I have no idea if you guys ate it since I have seen you drinking milk from your mum…..'' As Vincent kept on talking, Calla watched everything that happened before her gaze.
Vincent.
The rumored most handsome guy in her university. His nickname given by every student was the Prince Vincent, since he does look like a prince from a princess fairytale.
His name had always echoed from every female student in the university, and possibly every male. It wasn't the first time Calla had heard of him. She had also seen him in the past, but paid no attention. Apart from her studies, nothing in this school was of her concern. That could probably be the reason why she did not recognize him on time in the pet shop.
Now that she sees him face-to-face, she could tell he was very deserving of the princely title
'I heard he transferred to the university last semester…' Calla thought, walking closer to the warm scene of a handsome man petting cute, cuddly puppies.
One of the ears of the mother dog pricked up, and her furry head turned to Calla. A low growl rumbled deep from within her, and she slowly got up and stood protectively in front of Vincent and her puppies.
Her clear dark eyes reflected Calla's figure. Her head crouched low, and her ferocious yet protective gaze were very focused on Calla, perceiving for any incoming danger and threats.
The mother dog was protecting her puppies and Vincent whom she regarded as part of her new family.
Calla had stopped when the mother dog stood up from her previous position. She watched everything that unfolded in little time.
'….But, mothers are strong, right? Despite the lack of care, she managed to give to birth to that amount of puppies….'
Calla suddenly recalled Vincent's voice about mothers. Thanks to her studies, she knew female dogs were very protective of their puppies, but seeing one acting in reality was somewhat touching.
At the same time, it was uncomfortable.
If female dogs were like this….what happened to her own mother?
Why didn't she experience this kind of love from her own mother? Why was it directed to only her sister and not herself? Weren't they her daughters? Weren't they a twin? They obviously looked like each other, meaning that they were her daughters, so why was her sister the only one that experienced that motherly love?
Before Calla knew it, questions began to appear in her head. The depressing thoughts that she tried to shut out many times on this day created a pathway for themselves into her head.
''You gave birth to that amount of puppies? Our baby is really great.'' Calla slowly lowered her body, bending her knees. She removed her hood and slowly stretched out her two hands towards the vigilant mother dog.
She wanted to show that she wasn't a threat.
''Don't worry, I won't do anything to our baby and little babies. If you allow me, I will properly care for you.'' Her lips curled into a small smile while she spoke softly to the mother dog. As always, Calla pushed those questions in her head aside. She wished she could lock them up forever, but it was impossible when many things, people, and even animals reminded her of her past.
Right now, she did not want to spoil this little moment that she had with her favorite animal.
The mother dog looked at Calla for a while. Sensing no threat from her, she hesitantly closed the distance between them. Her steps were slow, and sometimes she stopped before continuing. Her gaze was focused on Calla, trying to see if there would be danger, but she perceived none.
Realizing that, the mother dog nudged the tips of calla's fingers with her nose, and then brought her head underneath a hand.
''Hello baby.'' Calla's eyes curved up as her soft giggles sounded in the quiet backyard. She put her knees on the grass to push her body forward and started to pet the mother dog.
''You are so weak, baby. Sorry for finding you and your little babies late. Will you like to come with me? I promise to care for you and the puppies….'' As Calla caressed the mother dog, her words were as if she was speaking to a human being. Her voice was very soft and clear. Her eyes twinkled with unlimited love for the animal in her gaze. Though her appearance was a bit scary and suspicious, the mother dog sensed the adoration from her and wholly allowed the petting. She even dropped her body to the ground and stuck out her tongue. Her tails wagged side to side, clearly expressing her happiness. This was different from the protective stance she had against calla.
*woof!* *woof!*
The puppies barked for attention. They were curious about Calla, a new human in their gazes. Seeing their mother being friendly with her, they decided to join in, wanting to know the new human in their midst. One by one, they struggled to get out of the box, and hurried to Calla.
*woof* *woof*
''Haha…'' This time, Calla sat on the ground, not minding the grass. Her bag was dropped to one side as she played with the energetic puppies.
''Our little babies are quite energetic.''
''…..'' Vincent, who was the center of their attention, was abandoned on the side like a used and replaced toy. The puppies quickly forgot about him, and not a single one remained by his side.
Vincent smiled to himself, knowing that puppies were like little children, curious about everything and everyone new to them.
'She's different from what I expected…' Vincent's smile faltered as he remembered the rumors about Calla and her past.
A lady who killed her beautiful twin sister for wealth.
Calla Anderson.
A lady shunned by the high society and her own family because of an unfortunate accident that happened years ago.
This was what Vincent knew before he decided to live with his maternal grandfather.
The high society was a community for the elites. The families of the three requirements would have a place there. Wealth, Power, and Influence.
Vincent's family was among the top ten elite families in the country and among the top fifty in the world. He was more than qualified to interact with people of the high society, and he did for a long time, though it was on rare occasions. However, an incident changed everything, and he decided to leave his father's family and settle with his mother's family.
Before he left, he heard words about the Anderson family's eldest young lady. He also knew about their youngest young lady. The twins were famous to many elite families, and that was because of the youngest twin sister.
The stories of the beautiful Iris flower of the Anderson family were not just rumors. That was the nickname given by many to the youngest young lady of the Anderson family, Iris Anderson.
Her reputation had spread wide to every elite family in the country. Many young men wanted to have her hand in marriage, and his father's family was no exception.
Compared to the beautiful Iris flower of the Anderson family, her eldest sister was like a stain to her perfect reputation.
A blemish that could never be washed off because of their blood relations.
