"And so, the bear and the three pigs lived happily ever after," Aiden concluded. "The end."
After closing the fairytale collection with a soft thud, Aiden rose to his feet and pressed a kiss against Liam's forehead.
"Good night, Liam. Sleep tight."
Tonight, something was different.
Liam was unusually wide awake. There was not even a bit of drowsiness on his face.
"Mama," he said while shooting sharp gazes at Aiden, "I want to ask you something."
"Hm? Ask what?"
"Tell me the truth," Liam sat straight and leaned closer to Aiden. "Did Papa bully you in the bedroom yesterday?"
"... No, why would you think that?"
"Mama, you should not lie!" the little boy cried out.
"..."
"I heard you screaming through the open window yesterday! Mama, if Papa is bullying you, I will teach him a lesson!"
"..."
What lesson? The one who needed a lesson in discretion was Aiden!
Aiden rubbed at his reddened face and heaved a deep sigh.
