Chapter 14: More Before the Grave

Morning shined in through the window upon the bed. I felt a pressure on my bare shoulder and realized Velador’s arm must be keeping me warm.

“Sh*t,” I growled and jumped out of bed when I realized the sun’s embrace began burning my skin. “Ow, damn it!”

“What’s happened?” Velador asked and turned over in bed.

I pointed to my arm and the sun and said, “A bit burnt.”

He squinted and said, “That looks bad; do you need a doctor?”

“It’ll heal,” I said and realized I gave him a full display of my body.

He climbed out of bed and pulled on a pair of brown trousers before walking through the sunlight towards me. The sun beam illuminated each strand of hair on his chest, face and head as some form of mortal, angelic aura. He stepped closer to me and pulled my arm near.

He analyzed the burn for a moment and asked, “Would it have killed you?”

“If it ate through every layer of me, yes.”
