The busy streets had always been busy at times while, sometimes, it would be too empty. Guangru was waltzing on the streets, looking for a nice companion for his father. He would be in the hospital for a while, and so he should have someone to stay with him other than his not-so-prospect mother.
Even if he didn't like Chuan Nayi anymore, Liu Xiaodan was still in love with her. He couldn't force his father to tear away from her, right?
He couldn't... even if he was capable of doing so.
Liu Xiaodan was among the long list of males that Guangru had asked to be his father. From this long list, twenty-seven had already bailed out and died of not-so-mysterious deaths. Guangru had already done it to Chuan Nayi; no evidence would prove he didn't kill those men in rage.
The child passed by a shop with a black glass wall. He spotted his assumed human form and stared at his own reflection. He had done everything he could to be cute just so these people would adopt him and give birth to him.
What was so wrong of wanting to be born? A lot of people in the world didn't even want to be born, but they already had their chances.
Guangru pulled on his chubby cheek. Right, he was so cute. Maybe that was why Liu Xiaodan liked him so much...
However, the encounter last night was a game changer for Guangru. He loathed his real form and had been hiding it from everyone else. He was nothing but an ugly monster which couldn't be loved by anyone.
No one would want to give birth to something as hideous as he was. This shell of a small child was his only hiding spot, and he felt violated when Liu Xiaodan looked at him directly that night.
Liu Xiaodan managed to slip out of his body at his dying phase and wandered the hospital among the souls that had been trapped in there. Guangru shouldn't have made a noise when he saw his father outside his body, but he did.
Then again, Liu Xiaodan was only terrified for a few seconds before accepting that that monster in front of him was that beautiful child he would always see. Moreover, he still loved him...
He still loved his little Guangru.
"I should find Baba a gift..." Guangru stared at his reflection and spoke of his promise. He then looked at the stores open for business. In such a vast world, even a century-old entity would be lost.
He never had any idea what a man as old as his Baba would want as a companion, but he still thought he wouldn't mind having the same kind as Guangru wanted. A companion that would fend off the evil... something big enough to support his Baba.
Since he was on his own, Liu Guangru didn't act cute and weak. He was walking in the streets for hours, in search of this magical companion. He would want to walk in the mall, but he kept on being asked where his parents were.
He would say 'hospital', but the guards would ask someone to take him back there. He would escape every time of course.
Guangru yawned as he walked as he was getting bored. He loved going around the city in the morning, but he wanted his Baba around him.
He already accumulated a lot of Yang energy to retain his form for so long, but he felt like he was only wasting it since Liu Xiaodan wasn't with him. If only he could channel all of these to his father…
The child then passed by an alley, screaming with Yin energy... even at broad daylight.
He then walked in and looked around; perhaps he would find something to spark his interest. If not, he'd eat up all the Yin energy instead. At a corner, he walked into a scene that he had seen before. A woman was being held by three men while one was moving quite strangely.
Screaming was muffled by that cloth tied along her mouth, and her face was covered in tears. Guangru flickered his eyes; wasn't this something he shouldn't be seeing as a child?
"What? A kid?" One of the men noticed the small child. Guangru only smiled at him. "Big Brother, do you know where the commercial district is?"
He had no idea where he was so if the man answered he was in it, then that would be a boring choice. He should find a place that would sell beautiful toys and big ones for his Baba.
"The fuck? Get him!" The rocking man pointed at the child, and one went to slowly corner him. Guangru didn't even flinch, but he stopped smiling. "I don't want to be carried."
"Carry? Don't worry about that..." The man licked up his lip. He then took hold of a piece of long pipe concealed at the side. "Just stand still, kiddo."
Seeing the scene, the woman started struggling, making the other two men chuckle as her breasts kept on wobbling in her struggle. She started screaming to warn the child, but to no avail. The man raised the pipe and swung down with full force.
Thunk! A loud sound was made when the pipe hit the concrete ground. The man's eyes widened as he knew he didn't miss. The pipe passed through the child who just stepped back later. He then raised his hand before Guangru's eyes turned real freezing cold.
Before the man could react, his head exploded as if he was hit by the pipe himself. His headless body then fell to the ground. The three humans froze in their places, the woman then screaming wildly.
Guangru detoured around the dead and looked up at the two males. The two criminals pulled out of the woman and threw her towards the child. The child stepped back to evade her head before locking his eyes at the two.
Without further ado, the two started screaming in pain as stab wounds began appearing on their bodies. They then bled to death, screaming in pain with their last breath. The woman was also knocked out by their push, but Guangru knew she was not yet dead.
He then noticed something was sticking out of the first man's pants. He pulled on it and saw that it was a wallet.
"...this is what Baba used to buy Big Brother..." He took the wallet and tried to stuff it in his little pocket. It didn't work, and so he just carried it as is... only to come back to loot two more men.
He had seen a small bag on his way, and so he tried how to use the money he had. He managed to buy the small bag, and he kept the three wallets there while walking around. He started yawning again before realizing that he had walked half-a-day away from the hospital.
Guangru then looked up and saw a familiar sight. It was the same street Liu Xiaodan took him before. It was where he saved the child from being crushed by a car.
A lively smile drew across his pretty face before taking the direction he thought could find the shop. After a few walking, he managed to find it. He was so excited that he pushed the door wide open in glee.
"Good after—ah? Are you lost, little guy?" The receptionist squatted down to his eye level. Guangru shook his head and smiled at her. He remembered her from their trip here. "I want to buy a companion for my Baba. He's sick, and he needed someone to be with him."
"Oh, my. That's not nice for him to be sick." She reached out to pat his head, finding his hair way too silky and fragrant. However, the fragrance smelled like the flowers for the dead. She then got up. "Okay, I'll help you. What kind of companion would you like him to have?"
"Something big." Liu Guangru looked around and saw the bears hanging on the wall. They were indeed big and were even taller than his father. His eyes flickered; would his little body be able to bring it back to the hospital.
The receptionist followed his gaze and giggled. The child turned to her and pointed at the bears. "Do you have a black one?"
"A black teddy bear?" The receptionist gasped. It was not normal for teddy bears to come in black, but she was sure they had one in stock just in case. However, she then squatted near the child. "We do, but that companion is very expensive. Who's paying for it?"
The child pouted and rummaged his bag for the cash. He didn't know if it was enough so he just held onto the bundle and raised it to her face. The girl's eyes widened as she saw so many hundreds in there.
What was this child's father's job? Why did he hand this child too much money he couldn't use properly?
She then took the bundle and counted it for the child. She was doing it loudly so the child knew how many were on her. She collected the amount for the bear and returned the rest. "Keep this now and don't just show it to others. You might get in trouble. I'll get the bear for you."
Guangru waited for minutes, and then the woman emerged with the black bear. His eyes glittered as he was amused by the bear in her arms. Only by then did he notice that the lady had taken off her apron. She had also had someone else come to the cashier as she finished the transaction.
She handed the receipt to the child before smiling at him sweetly. "Little sir, do you mind having me as your delivery courier? I doubt you could carry this back to your father."
"What's a courier?" Guangru frowned his little pretty brows.
"It means I will be taking this to your father." She forgot the child wouldn't know what a courier was. Upon getting Guangru's nod, she led the child to their shop car and had him sit in the backseat next to the huge bear. To be honest, this item came with free delivery so it was not abnormal for her to ask.
Along the ride, Guangru was feeling good. He couldn't wait to wake up his father and have him see the gift he had for him. Also, he should probably give him the money he looted as well. Then again, he doubted Liu Xiaodan would keep it.
The two arrived at the hospital, and the child led her to the room. He opened the door and saw that no one else was there. Even Chuan Nayi wasn't on her bed. It was only Liu Xiaodan who was sleeping peacefully.
The delivery girl propped the bear at the side of the bed before looking at the man. He wasn't breathing, but soon, it grew stronger.
The girl grinned as she kept on staring at Liu Xiaodan. "Wow, he sure does produce a pretty child... but isn't he looking like he's twenty?"
