Chapter 1

Melody stood at the airport's exit and stared at the city that she once lived in five years ago. The city where she lost everything that she ever held dear in her life. In this city, she lost her dignity and her family. She faced defamation and betrayal. She was abandoned by those she thought would always stand by her side.

Now that she was back, she was going to take back everything that was once hers. She was not going to let her enemies enjoy her wealth while she sat by the side and watched.

It was time for them to have a taste of suffering just like she did five years ago.

She was no longer the naive and innocent little girl she was back then. She is back and is back for revenge.

She brought out her phone and dialed a series of numbers before forwarding the call. After three rings the call was answered and a man's voice was heard through the phone.

"Hello?" The voice said.

"I was told to call this number when I arrived. I am here now," Melody said without any form of introduction.

"Miss Nova?!" The man exclaimed in surprise.

"Yes, it is I. And I am waiting at the airport." Melody replied.

"Tell me where you are and I will locate you." The man inquired.

"At the exit," Melody replied curtly.

"Alright, I'll be there soon." The man said and ended the call.

Melody put the phone back into her handbag and straightened up her body. She stood unmoving for quite some time and waited for the man to come and pick her up. Soon she saw a man approaching her.

"Miss Nova, it is nice to see you again." The man said as soon as he reached her.

Melody raised a brow at him before asking, "Have we met before?" But before he could answer she looked into his eyes and a memory flashed through her eyes. Her eyes widened in recognition.

"It was you!" She said with anger and the man immediately understood that she had recognized him.

"Miss Nova, please come with me first. I will explain everything to you later".He said apologetically.

"Very well then, lead the way". Melody finally relented. The woman she stayed with for the past five years has been nice to her. So, if she said she could trust this man then she would give him a chance.

Holding on to her bag, she put her sunglasses on and started walking out of the airport with determination and confidence in every step that she took.

They reached the car which was parked not so far away from their previous position and got in. They drove in silence until they got to their destination about thirty minutes after they left the airport.

They stepped out and he helped her get her bag into the condo unit. Once settled Melody looked at the man and demanded an answer to her previous question. The man knew from the determination in her eyes that he had to provide answers before she would let it slide.

"I am known as 'Shadow' but my name is Smith, and I am your bodyguard". Smith said and looked at Melody and she looked back at him without saying a word for a few seconds.

"You can't be my bodyguard. You were the one whom they sent to kill me that night. There is no way my father would have made you my bodyguard". Melody said with a frown on her face.

" Yes I was the one who came that night, but I did not come to kill you". Smith said to Melody.

"Then why were you there? How come I did not know that you were one of my bodyguards back then?" If this man was one of her father's men then, he had betrayed her and her father and there was no way she would be working with a traitor.

Her eyes turned cold as she stared down at him and Smith reciprocated her gaze with the same coldness. Each one trying to dominate the other. Eventually, Smith gave up first, Melody was his boss now. He didn't want to be disrespectful to his boss.

"I understand why you are angry. But please listen and let me tell you all that happened". Smith said and Melody nodded telling him to go ahead.

"I used to guard your father in the shadows until five years ago on your twentieth birthday, he asked me to protect you instead of him. I was against it but he made me agree to it. I understood his reasons. I know that to him you were more important than the entire world".

He paused and looked at her to see her expression but her face gave nothing away. She kept a poker face, her eyes never leaving his face even for a second. He sighed inwardly and continued.

" Once I started shadowing you I thought your friend's behavior suspicious so, I started investigating her and found out that she was working with your uncle to kill you and your parents".

But before I could get to know what their true plans were it was already too late. Your photos from the hotel had gone viral. I tried to fix it but then your parent's plane crashed and made things more difficult. So, I focused solely on protecting you. When I found out the plan to assassinate you, I killed the assassin and came to you myself".

He paused again but this time to catch his breath. He was getting emotional from remembering the past he hated the most. He looked at Melody for a second and resumed.

"That night, I knew that the best thing to do was to get you out of the city and there was no better way to do it than to make them believe that you were dead. So, I had to put you unconscious and reduce your pulse to make it believable. I told them that I was going to get rid of your body and they believed me. That was how I got you out of the city safely and changed your identity". Smith said keeping his head low. he wasn't able to look her in the eyes anymore.

Melody took some time to process the information. She has long accepted the loss of her parents but hearing all this made her miss them even more now.
