PROTECTION

Peter laughs at Jill's accusation.

"What? Spider-Bat? Where did that come from?"

Jill barges into the house.

"Cut the crap, Pete. Today you brought me the same machine the guy wearing a snow globe on his head was using."

"Look, people from my company found that machine somewhere and I wanted your opinion on it."

"So you just happen to find the exact same machine he used? And explain why you disappeared when that news report about the bombs. Not to mention you came back to New York around the same time Spider-Bat showed up."

Peter continues to laugh off the accusations, but he then sees the bat signal in the sky. Peter is confused by the sight of it during the day. Jill sees it and smirks at him. Peter stares back at her for a moment, then gets a call on his phone.

"Sorry, it's Parker Industries. I have to go."

Jill looks at Peter with an unconvinced smile. As he leaves.

"Stop looking at me like that." He says.

Later Commissioner Stacy, Detective Montoya and Bullock stand on the roof top.

"You know I prefer to work nights, Commissioner." Spider-Bat says in a shadowy part of the roof.

"Sorry, but we needed your help. A woman who needs protection."

"My protection?" Peter asks.

"Her name is Penny Cobblepot." Stacy says.

Peter is surprised.

"Cobblepot?"

"The Penguins ex wife. Well- sort of ex wife. She got knocked up and has been trying to get away from him ever since, but it's hard to do that when you're married to a notorious criminal who is well connected. But then, you put Cobblepot away and she was finally free." Bullock explains.

"But then Penguin broke out of prison last night, and now she's afraid that she'll be under his thumb again, so she asked for help. Yours specifically."

Peter nods.

"When can you get her out of the City?" Peter asks.

"Later tonight, we'll have two detectives move her to Metropolis. Figured the four of us can guard her until then."

"Where is she located?"

"Devil's Square. We two cops with her right now."

When Stacy and the others look back, Spider-Bat has already left.

Meanwhile, outside of Penny Cobblepot's apartment, the cops watching over her get attacked by two men. At that moment multiple men walk inside the apartment building, taking the elevator to her level. As they step out of the elevator, they are stopped in place when they see someone standing at the other end of the hallway. The mystery figure steps out of the shadows to reveal Spider-Bat.

"What the hell is Spider-Bat doing here?!" One of the men asks.

"I don't know, but it doesn't matter. We have a job to do, and we're going to get it done." Another man says.

The group of men pulls out guns, but Peter quickly throws multiple Batarangs that knocks them out of their hands. He then webs one of them into a clothesline. Another one swings at him but Peter blocks it, lands a right jab, and throws him into another guy. A third one runs right into backfist from the vigilante.

Another goon charges in with a knife, but Peter easily avoids it, kicks him in the knee, then grabs him by the throat and slams him into the elevator. As the last man runs up from behind him, Peter slams his elbow into his face, then grabs him by the head and slams him into the wall, taking down all of them.

A few seconds later, Detective Montoya, Bullock, and Commissioner Stacy arrive infront of the apartment building and sees the two cops unconscious on the ground. They quickly draw their guns and run into the building, quickly approaching the elevator. When the doors open, they see men webbed up and knocked out inside.

"I guess the web-head is already here." Bullock says.

They soon make it upstairs and see Spider-Bat waiting at Penny Cobblepot's door.

"You haven't gone in yet?" Montoya asks.

"I figured it'd be better if I didn't go in alone."

Stacy, Montoya and Bullock look at each other for a moment.

"That's a good point." All three of them say.

They then knock on the door.

"Ms. Cobblepot, it's NYPD!" Stacy says.

Penny slowly opens the door and breathes a sigh of relief.

"Thank God. I heard noises outside, I didn't know what was going on."

"Yeah, that was probably our pointy eared friend." Bullock says.

Penny looks over and sees Spider-Bat.

"Huh. You actually came."

Peter nods.

"Well Detective Montoya and I will be watching over you inside, while Bullock and Spider-Bat watch from outside." Stacy says.

Penny makes a suggestion.

"Actually. I would really prefer if he was inside with me."

Stacy looks back at Peter as he nods.

"Alright, he and detective Montoya will stay inside with you while Bullock and I will stand guard outside. Stay in constant radio contact." Stacy says.

Everyone agrees and they get into position to watch over Penny.

Meanwhile, The Hammerhead Penguin watches from a distance with binoculars.

"Looks like she gotten the cops and that web headed freak involved in our business."

"What do we do boss?" A henchmen asks.

The Penguin smiles.

"First, we'll try to negotiate." He says.

Meanwhile in the apartment, Montoya sits down with Penny as Peter stands in the corner.

"So when are you due?" Montoya asks.

"A week ago." Penny says, catching both Peter and Montoya off guard.

"You both are probably wondering how I ended up with Ozzy."

"Morbid curiosity honestly." Peter says.

Penny laughs.

"He cracks jokes. I didn't see that coming." Penny says.

Peter smirks.

"The truth is I didn't know about Oswald until after we were married. Even though it did bother me, I felt like there was nothing I could do. It wasn't until I was pregnant that I knew I had to try to get away from him."

Peter thinks about it for a moment.

"You have my word. You and your child will be safe." Peter says.

As Penny smiles, the phone starts to ring. Penny goes to answer the phone but Montoya stops her. Peter slowly picks up the phone but doesn't say anything.

"Hey Batsy."

Peter scowls.

"They have eyes on us. Close the curtains and radio into Stacy, now." Peter tells Montoya.

Montoya does what he says.

"Can you do me a favor hero and put the Mrs on?"

"Not gonna happen." Peter says.

"Well don't worry about it, pal. We can just talk when I come by later."

"If you know what's good for you. You won't come anywhere near here."

The Penguin slowly starts to grow annoyed.

"A father deserves to be in his child's life. Don't you agree, Spider-Bat?"

Peter hangs up the phone, angering Cobblepot.

"Everyone load up. We move now."
