Chapter 2: Beyond Compression

I walked into my room with anger radiating from my wolf. My nostril flared with impatience and determination to end the lives of the tribe causing my pack too much pain. How could these people keep touring us all these while yet we remained quiet as we watched with our hands folded on our chest and saw our fellow die unjustly? I quickly notified the other Alphas for an important meeting to put a stop to these.

The other alphas stood up the moment I walked in. Being the strongest amongst them wasn't why they showed me respect, but because so far, my pack has done a good job protecting most werecreatures around. Ever since my coronation as the alpha, I always carried my pack Along with me and this antidote won a place for me in their hearts. They could do anything I wished or asked for without questioning or objections.

Others joined in protecting ourselves from barbarians, all wondering what we committed to the moon goddess that made those people hunt us down like some rat.

Most werecreatures around fled to a faraway land and places to save themselves but that didn't stop the nemesis that was roaming about. They did get killed, by those heartless barbarians as there were everywhere.

" Kale alpha Simon greeted. I nodded and kicked mg chair away, leaning on the table and taking the chair's place.

" I called this emergency meeting concerning the creatures hunting down our kind ".

" I thought you called us here for something important only to come here and hear this crap you are spouting out from your mouth " alpha Albert turned facing the rest of the Alphas.

" I don't know what you take me for .." he banged the table creating a loud noise and making the rest of Alpha tremble.

" I know you will be so paranoid about these because none of your families or loved ones have been killed or tortured by those barbarians, so you don't know how it feels " glaring at him.

" The last meeting and the rest we held all these while until now remains useless. No matter how many meetings we… You call, nothing ever happens or help to curtail and stop these creatures from killing us. We don't even know what they are, how they look like.

So far, none who encounter them ever survives or see their faces ".

" That has changed, the moon goddess has finally heard our prayers ", I smirked.

" What? ' another alpha asked.

" About two months ago, my chief warrior's sister was taken by the barbarians ".

" Another lost ?… "

" If you'll let me finish ", I huffed. She was pregnant, due to the problem that she will deliver in two weeks made her weak that she dropped down her guard and was captured including her two sons by those good for nothing barbarians who decided to use kill her for the king's banquet "….

" King's banquet! They echoed in unison.

" And that was not even the case. What made the matter complicated was, when we thought all hope was Lost since she lost communication with her mate.

But suddenly, she contacted her mate to come to find her "…

" That's impossible, how could she communicate with her mate " Alpha Simon said.

"Once caught, we lose all communications with them ".

"That is true. But she managed to escape with her children …or rather was saved by one of them. The creatures aren't barbarians at least not exactly. According to her description, their men were huge, tall and strong but look like normal men even though they don't smell like humans. They live in a village ruled by a king and are all old fashion. I don't think they are anything near modernity….. Native marudos to be precise ".

" Okay, we have the description of our enemies human-looking what? One of the alpha asked.

" it is Unclear but the point is that I am now aware of their location ", they all gasped.

" Are you sure of what you are saying? How were you able to know the exact location since you don't even have a proper understanding of who you are dealing with? Folding their arms.

" Oh about that, I forgot to mention that earlier. She was able to lead us back to where the river she used in escaping which her helper showed her and after weeks of proper studying and observation miraculously located the main entrance although the geographical setting of the village seems impenetrable by outsiders because it is an island hidden behind a waterfall".

" That's not an excuse, as far as there is a way in there must surely be a way out ".

" My plans have been concluded. I need you all or this. Most importantly, enough wolves to Raid that place should be adequately provided to raid and put an end to their kind once and for all ".

"Then what are we waiting for,? Let's go!

" I am ready when you are kale!

" It's about time! He reminded.

" When do you want our wolves to be prepared ?!'

" They must all be wiped out" the other Alpha's snapped.

I smiled with satisfaction, every single one of them must die.

" You must carry Granville! He is man enough for you He won the contest for your hand!' father roared for the umpteenth time.

I rolled my eyes and maintained my adamant posture. Hands folded cocked and face pain. No one found out I released the wolves but my father suspected me. He had no proof so in anger, he called out for a contest, stating that Whoever caught a pregnant elephant and a young lone werewolf would have the honour of becoming my husband.

His problem.

" Balero, we have talked about this, Vanessa is too young to be forced into marrying someone she doesn't love ".

" And how is that accurate? He spat. Tell me Halita did I love you when I married you

" No," mother murmured.

" Do I love you now

" No,"

" Did you love me when you married me

" Didn't my mother arrange you for me as their bargain?

" Yes, she did".

" So what is this rubbish about love?

" The rubbish is that I don't want her to end up like me, marrying someone like you and living a difficult life." Mother said with a sudden boldness, folding her arms and glaring at him.

" You only had one child for me because of your bad luck and you dare challenge my authority He barked.

" Tell me, wasn't I nice enough to let you live in the palace with your barrenness ?!'

" Your Mistresses might have bored you sons, but I bore the strongest and most beautiful female ever recorded in history. Don't stand there and pretend like you haven't drowned yourself in pride because of that. Tell me, who else is like her? Who else is beautiful like my daughter? Do you think you are special because I let you marry me Don't dare force my daughter into marrying one of your pitiful beasts!

"She will Never marry one of your kind! If she finds favour in any of the god's sight, they will pick her to be a mistress or a queen."

I was just standing there looking at them and I was shocked by by by by my mother's plans for me To say I was shocked was an understatement.

" Excuse me! I shrieked. " And do I have a say in this arrangement ?!

" I am sorry Vanessa, but if you are to be safe, you need a god to protect you".

" I can pretty much protect myself, and that rubbish you are planning won't work out at all. I already toto myself I will never get married, never bow to any man.

It's either you both accept that or I leave this island !' i stomped out of their presence, boiling with rage.

I stomped to the grotto I always sit at every night. The grotto was at the far end of the island, one no one goes to except me and my mother. The grotto had green glowing water and images on the walls, images telling a story. I sat down at the edge of the pool and dipped my legs in.

" Phew ", I sighed as the water immediately cooled my anger. I leaned back on my hands resting my weight on it.

" Vanessa", I sighed at her voice, I knew she would find me. " Vanessa my darling", she called softly. She knelt behind me and sank her nails in my hair, massaging my scalp.

" You know I love you, right?

" I know but that decision is unnecessary,"

" You'll need it, for your sake..'

" You are alive, aren't you? I didn't die all these years so why should I?.

" Mother I know you are worried, but I assure you that I am fine.'

" No you are not, you will not. Vanessa, I am trying to rescue your future," She said anxiously.

" I love you, mama," I said, placing my hand on hers which was on my shoulders. " But you know that nothing would change my horrible fate, nothing at all," I said bitterly.

She slipped her hand away from mine sadly and sighed heavily.

' Do me a favour, can you do me one favour? I turned my body around a little, folding one leg and blinking at her.

" Anything for you mother,"

" Don't step out of this grotto tonight, not even at dawn. Until the red roaster of Bly valley croaks the sixth Time after the sun rises, don't step out of this grotto".

" Why? I asked her, furrowing my brows.

" Please don't ask me why, just do",' i looked into her almond-shaped eyes. I had her eyes; the beautiful pair of glassy Hunter green eyes with Carmine highlight and a thin dove grey shading around the irises. It was very beautiful, almost enchanting.

"Okay", I said lowly. 'l'll stay put.

"Thank you," That night, she hugged me tight for half an hour before letting me go.
