Todd drew in a deep breath and let it out in a loud, slow sigh. He pulled on his suit jacket and crossed the distance to the bed, crouching in front of Nick. Both palms were laid very gently on Nick’s knees. “Nick.” When Nick continued to stare off to one side, Todd reached up and hooked a finger under Nick’s chin. “Last night we spend in this room, promise. I don’t like staying here either. The kill order was for today. No assassination attempt by morning, I think we can safely say it’s a dead lead. I think it’ll be better to hang around another few days, but we can camp at the train depot until we leave.”
“Do you really think we can leave after tonight?” Nick asked.
Todd shrugged. “No one has come through the gates of the estate that we even remotely suspect. I’m sure Larry or the chancellor will have something for us to do, and if not, we’re still leaving. I don’t like being this close to Raleigh. Clarke can get ahold of us if he needs us.”
“We can hunt for Jah’lar?”
