How to get a stronger current?
Perhaps other than fruits, he could try using plants to make batteries. For example, there was a famous clock made from potatoes.
However it seemed like there were no potatoes in the Middle Ages.
After all, according to terrestrial history, it was not after the Middle Ages and the Age of Discovery that someone brought potatoes from South America to Europe.
In this medieval world, Richard could not be sure whether it was because of that specific era in its history, or whether there were continents like South America and Europe. However, it was true that there were no potatoes, therefore there was no point in thinking about potato clocks.
Furthermore, even if he could build a potato clock, there was a high probability that it might be useless. After all, plants could not be highly acidic if they were grown normally. It was very possible that after trying all the plants on this world, the current in the battery would always be within the same range.
In this case…
Richard's eyes narrowed, and he suddenly thought of something.
In this case, he was only left with making real batteries, such as voltaic piles, Baghdad batteries, alkaline batteries and more.
Although he had wanted to avoid doing the hard work, it seemed that he still had to do it.
With that in mind, Richard turned around and ordered the two servants to start working.
They spent most of the day gathering the materials they had and making all the possible batteries, which they then lined up on the table. Richard tested them, but found that none met his requirements.
Some had weak currents, while others had low voltages. Although this could be solved by arranging them in parallel or in series, the power supply was unstable, weak at times, and strong at other instances. Although it was unclear how it would work for creating a magic source, Richard believed that it would not have positive results.
"Well, it still doesn't work," Richard murmured, letting out a suffocating breath. Shaking his head, he opened the door of the private laboratory and walked out, the servants Angie and Luna quickly followed suit.
The other servants in the hall saw that Angie and Luna were still with Richard, and they could not help but cast jealous glances at them. However, very soon they realized that Prince Richard had an unpleasant expression on his face, while Angie and Luna looked flustered. They then directed gloating glances at them.
There was also fierce competition among the servants. At this moment, in the eyes of the other servants, Angie and Luna had obviously not completed the task assigned by Richard and had thus angered him. This was good news for them.
Tap, tap, tap. Richard walked through the hall, towards the palace gates. He was surprised that it was nearly afternoon. Half a day had passed by before he even knew it.
After conducting three experiments, he had yet to solve the problem of the electric current. How should he solve it?
Richard was lost in thought.
Chief Bodyguard Edward appeared. Upon seeing Richard, he thought about reminding him to eat lunch, yet after noticing Richard's frown, lost in contemplation, he stopped in his tracks. He was tactful enough not to bother him.
The whole world suddenly became quiet. The guards and servants in the palace worked while trying not to make any noises, lest it disturbed Richard and angered him.
The world around Richard was strangely silent for a long time as he sought for the solution to his problem.
After a while, Richard suddenly raised his head and looked at the square in front of him.
Thump, thump.
Two bullfinches swept past the square, their bodies almost against the ground.
He turned to look at the top of the gates. In a corner, a spider was weaving a vertical spiderweb quickly.
With his eyes narrowed, Richard stretched out his hand. The humidity in the air was increasing. Turning his head, he glanced at the sky. He could still see the sun, but the clouds were thickening, and the southern sky seemed slightly darker.
"Is it going to rain?" Richard's eyes narrowed.
Theoretically, this was a normal event. After several days of warm weather, a large amount of vapor had evaporated into the air, and there was a much higher chance of rain. It seemed that it would be a downpour.
Once it rained, there would also be lightning.
As a natural electric current, lightning was strong enough in theory to change the biological electric current in a person. However, figuring out how to control and use the current was a problem, since he certainly did not want to be struck by lightning. That would not be scientific research at all, but suicide.
In that case…
After a while, Richard turned around and had come up with a plan. He turned to the Chief Bodyguard Edward. "Get me the royal craftsman. I have something to tell him."
"Understood."
