Her name was Megara Daybrace from the Scarlet Blossom Clan.
As the saying goes around in this sect, 'She was ethereal but it was all in vain.'
Beauty couldn’t battle fate.
Some beautiful ones are fated with unsightly ones.
Some are beautiful but unsightly within, some are unsightly but beautiful within, all fated.
Thus for Megara beauty was nothing...it was all about fate.
Which unfortunately was infrequently on her side ever since her puberty.
"Pardon us, Master," Helice apologized and all four of them stood in line beside each other. Facing their master with a straight stance and warm expressions. "Where were you this morning?" Megara asked Helice as she slowly walked up to them. Her hands were behind her back as she stood straight with a stern look on her face.
She looked at Helice before looking at others indifferently.
"I...overslept," Helice said and slightly gulped, barely keeping eye contact with Megara. This woman's eyes were like sharp weapons when she was dissatisfied. Helice lowered her eyes as she could no longer keep straight eye contact with her master.
Megara said nothing and looked at all four of them.
"It's been a while since we went on an A-rank mission," Megara said and both the boys standing in front of her bloomed as if they already won a battle or were getting married.
"A rank mission," Ida repeated, her eyes almost coming out of their sockets. She was the greatest doormat in them but never truly showed it to Megara otherwise she would be booted out but only if she knew her master was well knowledgeable of all four of her disciples.
"Our lives will be at great risk here," Megara said and all of them went stiff. It was the first time Megara said something like 'Losing their life' in an A-rank mission.
"What is the mission, Master?" Helice asked hurriedly as she was always very impatient. She was working on controlling her impatient nerves. Megara took a deep breath before finally throwing an entire pebble on all four of them.
"We are going to the dark mansion. We will be looting the stones that Evandros Linya has compiled somewhere in his mansion." By the end of Megara's explanation, all four of them were already pale. Only syloson was a little steady.
"He already possesses five stones....if not five we can at least take one but we must not let him know from which sect we belong. The day after tomorrow we will vacate for the mission. Tomorrow you guys will meet me here around this time and we will recall our plan." Megara ordered with a serious expression on her face. Her gaze examined each of her disciple's faces.
"W...Why us?" Ida asked.
Megara was quiet, she knew exactly 'Why us?' but she was a master who was not here to demotivate her disciples. Only because of them, she was a master otherwise.....she mentally shook her head and looked at Ida indifferently.
"Show them...why exactly us," Megara said with a faint smile on her face and all four of them lit up like young flowers. It wasn't like she honored them but the anxiety that shook them just a second ago faded away with Megara's terms.
"Yes." They said in unison, full of spirit.
"Then I will see you guys tomorrow. Sharpen yourself." Megara said and turned around to leave but she trailed off in her tracks and slightly turned her head to look at Helice. "Once we are done with the mission, you have to write a thousand manuscripts of your missed homework," Megara commanded and walked away. Once she was on the bridge far away from them, surrounded by trees, all three of them turned towards Helice and mocked her.
Helice thought she would get away with her punishment but her master was Megara Daybrace.
Megara Daybrace, the one who had tasted the wrath of Linya.
The wind rustled, fluttering her white robe as she slowly walked on the bridge filled with autumn leaves. Her shadow walked beside her on the texture of the dampness. Her gaze watched the trees above her. She did not spare any glimpses of the disciples walking past her.
Her mind was roaming around 'Why us?'
She felt sudden warmth and bitterness clenching her chest within.
'Why us?'
Because their Master Megara did not have any soulmate. This was a world where people were destined to meet and bear each other symbols on their chest and arms as soulmates after the age of eighteen, some met their soulmates a little late around twenty but Megara was twenty-four and still had no soulmate which only notified one thing...she was born without a match.
But that was not the only cause behind ‘why us?’
There are only ten percent of people in this world who are born without a soulmate and Megara was one of them. These people are kept low and looked down on by other people. No matter how strong you are...if people couldn't judge you...your companions would. This was not the only hindrance in Megara’s life. Her past was bound to her like a series of nightmares.
She was the only master with very few disciples....no one wanted to be under her, to be taught by her but those four children did. She never wanted disciples in the first place but watching them being treated unfairly did things to her heart, made her remember someone.
They thought...they are faulty...they might not know but Megara knew why those four preferred her. Guessing she was faulty just like them and they wouldn't be looked down on by their companion or master.
However, when they got to know her, they knew they preferred the right master.
The reason they were ordered to go on this mission was that no one cared about them..the headmaster of the sect did but the other masters didn't and selected her to go on this mission.
They knew this mission was risky and they might die but they could care less for Megara and her disciples because they were faulty anyway. Their death would not impact the sect.
But there was this one master who cared about her, always did.
He was also born without a soulmate but was treated well because of his strong magic and spiritual core. He was stronger than Megara or maybe because he was a man with a past suitable for a successful master.
His name was Evenor and he belonged to the Red Tiger clan. He possessed the same red hair as Syloson and was handsome from head to toe. Not to mention his eyes..they speak love to her and her eyes speak respect and affection to him.
She might not have a soulmate but there was this man who cared for her and stood for her.
At least she had him.
They had pure feelings for each other and both of them knew without even saying it. He was more in devotion while she had her limitations up for some reason...only she knew why.
She was at peace with him but little did she know her peace would be devastated a lot sooner.
