CHAPTER THIRTY

DERRICK'S POV

I watched as Rita burst into my office, her face contorted with anger and frustration. Initially, I considered leaving her to her tantrum, which had become a common occurrence whenever the topic of Edward arose. However, as I observed the stray tears cascading down her cheeks, I knew that something deeper was veiled beneath her outward display of irritation. A sense of dread washed over me; something significant must have occurred to propel her into this emotional turmoil.

Without hesitation, I guided her to a chair and knelt down in front of her, positioning myself at eye level. With genuine concern, I inquired, "What happened?" The room fell silent, save for the sound of her quiet sobs. I gently clasped my hand over hers, my skin absorbing the warmth of her tears. It was evident that the magnitude of her emotions rendered her incapable of articulating the events that had transpired.
