“Come in,” I said, and he walked by me.

“Thanks.” He paused in the living room. “I see you’re taking the holiday seriously,” he said, smirking at the rag and polish in my hands.

“Not all of us have maids to clean up after us, you know?” I went back to wiping down the table in front of the couch. “What do you need, boss?”

I heard the hiss of breath, which meant I’d pissed him off. I loved doing that. “You do that to annoy me, don’t you?”

“Yup.” I finished the table and worked on the bookshelves, which I’d already emptied and placed the tomes in neat stacks on the wooden floor.

“Is that all you plan to do today?” he asked, and I glanced behind me to see the petulant look on his face.

“Why is it such a bad thing? I like a neat, clean environment. I didn’t get to clean yesterday because I was finishing a project for you.”

He sat on the couch. “What do you do in your free time, Gus? I don’t think I’ve ever asked you that.”
