I sipped my wine to hide a smile. “Right, well, if I work for you—and that’s a big if—it will be professional. Hands off.”

His pout was cute, but I ignored it. “Come on. Help me clean up, then you can get the hell out of my house.”

“What happened to treating a guest like royalty?” he asked while putting away food.

“I know you too well. You don’t deserve it.”

“Still a brat, I see.”

I chuckled. “Apparently that’s one thing that will never change.”

We spent the evening laughing at each other and poking fun, and it made me happy to see Seb so relaxed. He’d had a pinched look about him in the mattress store, like he expected someone to yell at him at any second. That much stress would wear anyone down.

We sat at the table again after the kitchen was clean, and I’d made tea for both of us. “I know I didn’t want to hear it before, but I’m interested now. What was it like in New York?”
