As the time passes

It was morning and Damian was looking at the ceiling of the bedroom. He turned his head and saw Kayla sleeping naked upside down with a blanket covering her lower body. He was too frustrated to think straight and didn't want to be alone. He thought Kayla felt the same and that's why this happened.

'It just happened', he thought. 'Never again', he told himself as he walked out of the bedroom.

He sat on the sofa and wondered what to do from now on. He couldn't go out to find Rick and others. There was a possibility that they will never see each other again. Then he thought about that place. The place he always wanted to go back to since the start but was too scared to go. He shook his head once more.

'Not knowing and just hoping that they are alive is good enough for him than knowing that they are not alive anymore', he thought to himself.

"You should've woken me up", a voice came from the back and Damian saw Kayla approaching him covering herself with the blanket.

"I didn't want to disturb you in sleep", Damian answered as he tried to bring out a smile. "I thought by the time you wake up; I'd have come back with clothes for you. I saw a garment shop nearby", he added.

"Hmm... Then I'll keep the breakfast ready", she said.

Damian soon got ready to leave out and find Kayla some clothes that'd fit her. When he returned, the food was already prepared. Kayla changed into the clothes Damian brought back for her and after breakfast, both of them left the house. There were lots of walkers roaming in the streets. Damian didn't have to worry when he was alone but now, he had Kayla with her. So, he stepped forward carefully while holding Kayla.

"You are moving quietly, so you know the basics. Walkers only attack when they notice you. Disappear from their sight and don't make a noise and they leave you alone", Damian whispered.

"Look at that walker in the alley. Let me show you how you kill one", Damian said as he took her to the alley where two walkers were sitting down eating some dead rats.

"Observe", he said as he positioned Kayla in a place before he closed the tin boundary where she was hidden from walker's view. He approached the walker from behind and stabbed it in the neck without losing a moment. The walker fell to the ground. Other walker looked at Damian, but he had already put a belt around his mouth from behind and locked him to the ground. He gestured at Kayla and handed over his knife to her. 

"Your turn", he said as he poked out walker's neck. Stab it here. You have to destroy the brain and it's the easiest way to reach there. Kayla hesitated a bit when she approached him. 

"There is no time to hesitate. If you don't kill it, you let it come at you or you friends", Damian said. "Stab quick. Release him", he commanded. 

Kayla thrust her knife forward where Damian had pointed but looked sideways with her eyes closed. The walker stopped moving.

"You will get it next time", Damian said as he stood up. "One more", he said as he opened the gate and a walker entered the alley. Damian once more held him by his neck and subdued him on the ground. "Try again. This time look where you are stabbing. I'll keep bringing in walkers until you kill them looking at them", Damian instructed. This time, to avoid killing any more walkers, Kayla stabbed while looking at the walker. 

"Good", Damian complimented her as he stood up and quickly jumped and grabbed the top of the wall and climbed up. "Give me your hand", he asked as he bend down offering her his hand. She quickly looked at him strangely before he gestured at her to look at the gate. She turned back and saw few walkers pushing to enter the gate. The sense of danger made her quickly run towards Damian and jump up. Damian grabbed her and pulled her up. Then he jumped down to other side like a spring. He asked her to jump down.

"Jump. I got you", he said. She took a leap of faith and jumped down. Damian caught her mid-air and softly put her down.

"See. You can always trust me", he said with a smile. Kayla also smiled before remembering how dangerous it was and hit Damian in his arm.

"Okay. One more walker", Damian said, and her face once again turned yellow.

She looked at him begging to let her not do it.

"No. I am serious. The more you kill now, the better you get at killing them. I am here to protect you now, so you don't have to worry about them biting you. But when we face a lot of walkers, I'll need help", Damian said.

Listening to this, Kayla couldn't protest anymore. And the killing continued as they moved from one alley to another in the same manner. By the end of the day, Kayla had killed more than forty walkers. 

"You did good today. It'll be better tomorrow", Damian said as they were going back.

Kayla looked at him for a moment and then looked back to the front. "It's not that I don't want to. But I am a doctor. I save lives. It just doesn't feel right", she said looking down.

"You can only save people if you can save yourself first. In this world, even a thousand soldiers are not worth a single doctor. You are too valuable to humanity to just be bit by a walker one random day because you couldn't protect yourself", Damian said.

"I know it's hard for you but trust me, you have to do it. You have to change as the world has also changed", Damian added further which left Kayla thinking.

When they came back, Kayla went to wash up while Damian waited for his turn. While she was inside, he just looked around in the house and found some cassettes of songs. He inserted it on the cassette player that was inside the rack of TV stand and played it, but the song started playing too loud. Damian quickly turned down the volume and lowered it.

Kayla peaked out of the bathroom and asked, "What was that scream just now?".

"Found a cassette player", Damian gestured at the player with embarrassment.

Soon, she came out and Damian went in. By the time he came out, Kayla had prepared the dinner and there were two cans of beer. Damian sat around the table and started eating. The music was soothing to ears as the room was in low light. 

Kayla passed the beer to Damian, but he refused her, "I don't drink", he said.

"Not even beer?", she asked with a surprise.

"Not even beer", Damian told her. She took it back and drank herself.

Then after dinner, they sat down for a bit before Kayla started going back to her room. Then suddenly Damian turned towards the bedroom and saw Kayla standing there looking at him.

"Good night", he said. 

"Yeah, good night", she said back before going in leaving the door open. Damian kept looking inside before taking a deep breath and standing up.
