Welcome To The Supreme Soldier System

"Shit, shit, shit!"

I cursed to myself as I ran for my life. I honestly didn't know where I was. All I know was the fact that I was in some kind of a battlefield. And to make things worse, this didn't look like some dream.

If it indeed was a dream, then this would be one hell of a realistic dream. And a dream I would not ever want to dream again. Then again, it was not in our control about what we dream, does it?

Regardless of whether it was a dream or not, I wasn't taking any chances. I mean, what the heck, there were freaking bullets being shot at me, man! I would like to see which dumb idiot would stand there and welcome a rain of bullets.

So, acting cool at this moment was a big no-no!

Anyways, to give you guys a bit of background information, you can call me Shiba Tatsuyo. I am an ordinary college student whose entire life revolved around getting good grades and getting placed in an MNC, which would then proceed to make me a slave labor.

I don't have any grand ambitions either. A cute girlfriend, who I would marry after dating for a year or two; two children; and a very ordinary life that every common man lives.

Nothing big or ostentatious.

Anyways, back to the present, or in this case, what I deem to be present. When you don't know what the heck was happening around you after waking up in a literal battlefield, there was always a disconnection between reality and your mind.

For example, look at that burly soldier yelling at me to cover him. I mean, I do know what the heck covering means in a gunfight. After all, I too have played games like CS in my free time. But, the problem here was how the hell am I supposed to do it?

One, I don't how to handle a freaking gun in the first place. Oh, all was good and well if I was sitting in front of a PlayStation or my computer with consoles in my hand. But, when you have a literal gun in your hand, that's an entirely different matter, my brother.

Two, why the heck should I leave the safety of my hard found hiding spot to help a literal stranger? I mean, I could literally sit here and be safe instead of standing up and attracting enemy fire. Nope, I am not that stupid to do something like that.

Anyways, now that I have some time to catch my breath I take stock of my current outfit. The outfit looked like some kind of a video-game one. If not, the only other option was special forces, which I was sure I was not. Why? Because I don't have any cool gadgets with me.

All I have was a gun and a few magazines. If I was indeed special forces, I would at least have some bombs in my arsenal. Not to mention the other cool stuff. Guess, I am merely cannon fodder. Figures, even in dreams I can't get a break! Why not some war general or some supreme commander, eh?

Right then, suddenly a message window that looked eerily similar to a video game message popped open in my mind.

I stared blankly at the screen in shock. I mean, I have read some novels where these kinds of things happen. But, I have never in my life imagined such a scenario to occur to me.

I shook my head and looked around to only stare dumbly at my surroundings. The entire world was frozen like some kind of a video game setting. I gulped audibly and stared around with wide eyes not believing what I was witnessing.

BUZZ!

My mind shook and I saw the message window appear again as if it was urging me to enter my name.

I once again looked around to see the entire world being in a frozen state. Something within me told me that this was very real. Once I entered my name, then there would be no going back.

I gulped audibly, hesitating to enter my name and doom myself. Just then two buzzes went through my mind and my entire body visible shuddered.

[Final Warning! Kindly Input Your Name To Begin The Program...]

What the heck! What's this bullshit about issuing a final warning? And isn't asking me to kindly enter my name after such a warning a bit two-faced? Oi. did you think I was too easy to bully?

BUZZ! BUZZ! BUZZ!

What the heck! What's this self destruct sequence thingy? Don't tell me I will be blown to pieces if I don't enter my name. Damn System! You are too much of a bully!

Fine, fine. You win!

I mentally thought my name and the sequence abruptly stopped with my name appearing in the empty space.

My lips twitched as I saw the word Cannon Fodder in the profile description. Not only was this system a bully, but it also had no idea as to what to tell and what not to tell. Wouldn't the term Soldier (Level 1) suffice?

As I was lamenting about getting such a ridiculous system, the user profile page closed and another message popped up.

[Mission Parameters]

[Advance 200 meters to escape the enemy bombardment within two minutes.]

[Category: Cannon Fodder Survival]

What the heck? Does this broken system want me to come out of my hiding spot? No way in hell I am doing this. The System can go and f..... wait a minute! What enemy bombardment?

As my thoughts came to a screeching halt, I saw the timer began to count down. My eyes widened in realization as I realized what it was about. From the looks of it, I need to advance about 200 meters to escape from the bombardment.

"Oh my god! I am dead for sure. Why is this system so brutal? Who gives such a mission as the first one? Shouldn't it be something like shoot a target who is looking the other way? Doesn't all the sniper games start like that? What the heck!"

"Cover me! Cover me!"

The burly soldier's shout interrupted my musings. I turned to look at him and he was waving at me to start covering him.

"Cover my ass! I am going to die in a minute and you want me to cover for you? Get lost, you moron!" I grumbled to myself and looked at the timer.

Thirty seconds were already gone. I had only 90 seconds to advance 200 meters. Gritting my teeth, I moved out of my hiding location. If I am going to die, I am going to die like freaking Al Pacino in Scarface....

I aimed my gun at an enemy soldier and pressed the trigger to only find it locked.

"Fuck! I forgot to turn off the safety! Shit, run!!!"

I advanced madly doing nothing. I fumbled with my gun. From muscled memory ingrained into this body, I undid the safety and started firing madly all around. All the while, running and praying to whatever shitty bastard brought me here to let me live.

My mad charge took the enemy by surprise and they dove for cover. The burly soldier behind me followed me and he too fired a few rounds ensuring no one attacked us as we advanced.

I saw a nice hiding spot a few meters ahead, but I forsake it for survival and ran a bit further shooting madly all around. There was no grace or poise that one would expect from a seasoned soldier. After all, I was simply waving the gun and firing it.

After almost a minute or frenzied shooting, I found a nice little hiding spot and dove into it. The burly guy followed me seconds later. As we both took cover and breathed hard, a popup appeared in my mind.

[Mission Accomplished]

[Rewards Obtained: 10 Exp, 3 Reliability]

I breathed a huge sigh. Not even a few seconds later, a fighter jet flew overhead and rained bombs at the place we were previously hiding in. I gulped as I watched the entire expanse turn into dust.

Fuck! Isn't this system a little bit too brutal?
