Cas x Reader (request)

The bunker was silent as you walked out of your bedroom, glancing over your shoulder to check if Dean or Sam's door was open. Both were closed, and you sighed quietly, they hadn't talked to you at all today because of how busy they both were. Or at least, that's what Sam had quickly mumbled to you as he brushed past you this morning in the kitchen. A frown crossed your features, but it was soon dispelled when you saw a familiar figure clad in a battered trench coat stood by the table.

Castiel looked up as you entered, only maintaining eye contact for a few seconds before letting out a small awkward cough. "Um. Hello Y/N."

"Cas, I haven't seen you in too long..." your voice trailed off as you followed his gaze, noticing the large picnic basket he held firmly in his hand. Curiosity got the better of you as you walked up to him, nudging his forearm gently with your elbow. "What's this?"

Castiel smiled down at his feet before meeting your eyes once again, this time his blue eyes were alight with what could only be happiness.

"We are going on a picnic Y/N."

Thankfully, it was a clear night, and the view of the stars was not corrupted by dull clouds as you and Castiel placed the blanket down on the slightly damp grass. You sat down, cross-legged and watched his movements with slight amusement. When he finally stopped fiddling with the paper plates and sandwiches, your attention had been caught by how damn cold it now was outside. An involuntary shiver ran through your body as you pulled your knees up to your chest, eyes fixed intently on the stars.

Castiel had been also examining your actions, and he tilted his head in slight confusion at your shivers. He shuffled closer to your frame, opening the side of his trench coat that was closest to you and gesturing for you to move nearer. Your eyes were torn away from the sky and you gladly obliged, curling up into his side, making a little noise of gratitude for the blissful warmth. What you were not expecting was for Cas to wrap his arm around your waist and rest his chin comfortably on the top of your head, but he did and it made your heart swell with something you thought had vanished long ago. "Cas?"

"What Y/N?"

"Thank you for this, it's exactly what I needed, things have been real tough lately."

Castiel's thumb began making small circular movements on your hip, that made you feel altogether more relaxed.

"You're welcome. I always want to be in your company and that has not been the case lately," he paused, seemingly in thought, "Do you want to lie and look at the stars?" his voice was soft and warm, much like his embrace, you nodded shyly giving him a sincere smile.

"Isn't it beautiful Cas?" you breathed, snuggling into his chest, smile growing at the soft chuckle that was emitting from his lips. "You are making it very clear that I am an adequate pillow."

"Shut up," you blushed madly into the fabric of his shirt, "You're just comfy, tha's all."

"I never said I minded it." he replied quietly, leaning down to press a feather light kiss to your forehead.
