Josh's POV
The next day at school I saw Justen in his normal spot. He had dark circles under his eyes and was wearing his normal white sweatshirt. Justen noticed that I was looking at him so I looked away as Ryan walked up to me.
"Hi, Joshie," Ryan said, wrapping his arm around my shoulders. "How are you doing today?"
I rolled my eyes, not wanting to deal with Ryan today. "I wouldn't be able to tell you because my day has just started," I said.
"How was your night?" Ryan asked.
Flashbacks of last night went through my mind. How Justen broke my heart and made me weak. Last night when my own little brother had to comfort me while I was hurting.
"I-it was fine, I guess," I said
"What do you mean, you guess?" Ryan asked.
"It's none of your business," I said, shoving him away. "I'm going to class."
Once in my first-hour class, I saw Nathan. Finally, someone I can actually talk to.
"Hey, Josh," Nathan smiled.
"Can I talk to you about something?" I blurted.
"Yeah, of course," Nathan said.
"You know how Justen and I were together?" I asked.
"Were?!" Nathan asked. "What are you talking about were together?"
"He broke up with me," I said.
"That bastard," Nathan said.
"He did it with a straight face too, I don't even think he felt a thing," I said.
"Are you okay?" Nathan asked.
"I don't know right now. I'm feeling pretty heartbroken but I think I'll get better with time," I said.
"If you need someone to beat him up I don't think Ryan would mind helping you out with that one," Nathan said.
"Nathan, what the hell?!" I asked.
"I'm kidding," Nathan said. "You must really love him still, don't you?"
I nodded.
"Dang," Nathan said. "How did he break up with you?"
"He just said that we had to break up and when I yelled at him about him being a dick, he just said breaking up would be for the best. Then, in my rage, I agreed with him," I said.
"Damn," Nathan said. "Do you think he misses you?"
"No. He just played with my emotions for fun, the asshole doesn't feel a thing," I said.
"Whoa, are you sure you want to call him an asshole already?" Nathan asked.
"I'm just calling him as he is," I said, shrugging my shoulders.
"Do you want me to talk to him?" Nathan asked.
"Why would you want to talk to the guy who broke my heart?" I asked.
"To see his point of view," Nathan said.
"If you really want to talk to him, go ahead," I said. "I don't see why you need my permission."
"Okay," Nathan said.
"Anyway, how was your night?" I asked.
"I… I talked to a girl," Nathan said.
"Who?" I asked, truly interested.
"She's gone to our school for quite some time but I've never talked to her before," Nathan said. "Last night she texted me and I actually responded this time. She and I had a full-blown conversation and it was kinda weird to me but it was really cool at the same time."
"Who were you talking to?" I asked.
"Her name is Holly," Nathan said. "One of her best friends, Bridget, is with Cameron, remember?"
"Oh, you're talking about the girl who never says anything," I said.
"Yeah, her," Nathan said.
"Good for you man," I said as the teacher got everyone's attention to start class.
