Prologue

"I want to take a year off."

Standing in front of his imposing boss, Ethan Thornton fearlessly demanded.

The big boss took off his glasses and rubbed his nose.

"If I remember correctly, you just started a few days ago."

"Three days, sir."

"Ethan, newbies can't take that many days off."

The President told him with an air of grandeur that he shouldn't even dream about it, even if he were his own son.

"I have a special reason, sir." Ethan furrowed his handsome brows, seemingly not expecting to be met with resistance.

"No matter what special reason you have, it is not allowed." The president remained unmoved.

"Old man, you are going too far!" Ethan's tone started to rise.

"Who is going too far? Just three days into the job and you want such a long vacation. What do you think this place is?!"

"Old man, I advise you to agree quickly! Otherwise, if your wife finds out that you are exploiting me at the company, it will be a very embarrassing situation." Ethan brought out his first trump card.

Victor Thornton has always hated being threatened, and this time is no exception.

"Go on then! Let's see if my wife will help you or me?"

After eagerly waiting for his son to be discharged from the military and come to the company to share his burden, he would not easily let go now, no matter what he said.

Ethan sneered, opened the door behind him, and shouted loudly.

"Mom, your son is being bullied, come quickly!"

"You little brat!" Victor cursed through gritted teeth.

Shortly after, Mrs. Thornton walked into the study and smiled good-naturedly, asking, "What are you two fighting about now?" Her well-maintained beautiful face had not a single wrinkle, making her look like Ethan's sister.

"Mom, the old man won't let me go after my wife," Ethan provocatively looked at his father.

"Go after your wife?!" The Thornton couple exclaimed in unison.

"Victor, why won't you let Ethan go after his wife?" Olivia Thornton, eager to hold her grandchild, immediately glared at her husband and started counting accounts.

It was only then that Victor realized he had been fooled by his son.

"You brat! Why didn't you say so earlier?"

Grandson, as long as there's a grandchild to hold, even if he had to work like a horse and strive for another ten years, he would willingly do it.

"Ethan, don't mind him," Olivia smiled and pulled her son to the side. "Tell mom, do you really have someone you like?"

Her son had disliked females since childhood, but ironically, he had exceptional popularity with women. Starting from kindergarten, girls fought over him, causing physical altercations. As a result, he came home with a sour face almost every day and angrily declared that he wouldn't marry a wife in the future. Hearing these childish words, Olivia, as a mother, could only laugh and cry, but she didn't take his childish talk to heart.

I didn't expect that from elementary school to junior high school to high school, he insisted on attending an all-boys school and really didn't have a girlfriend. He was extremely contemptuous of women. At this point, she realized the seriousness of the situation. She wanted to actively help him find a girlfriend, but she was afraid it would backfire and deepen his aversion to women. So she could only hold back her tears and silently pray that their beloved only son wasn't gay.

"Fine!" Ethan rudely nodded. Up until now, that woman was the only person he could tolerate. Could he not compromise a little?

"Son, how did you two meet?" Victor put aside his father's dignity, walked over with excitement, and eagerly wanted to join the discussion. "Is that girl well-behaved? What's her name? What does she do? And when can we meet her?"

In fact, what Victor most wanted to ask was: How far have you progressed?

Ethan pretended not to hear his string of questions. "I want to take a day off tomorrow."

"No problem, I'll talk to the HR manager tomorrow. You go ahead and chase after your wife!" Victor couldn't hide the pleased smile on his face.

"Thanks!" This old man knows what's good!

Ethan did not answer any of the questions, and he patted his father on the shoulder without any regard, ignoring their anticipation and moved expressions. He went upstairs to sleep.

Olivia stared longingly at his back.

"Ethan, don't be so heartless..."

"Son..."
